Horizons of the Bally Lost Souls of the No Name Rally
Was not sure of what to do on Saturday given the three competing events so I thought that I would head down to Horizons Unlimited at Fairbridge.
A quick check out of the thirty adventure bikes parked around the oval and the smattering of tents was followed by a pie at the Pinjarra Bakery.
About ten kms out of Dwellingup on my way to Boddington, I stopped to have a stretch when three off road riders pulled in saying they were on the way to the No Name Rally in Bridgetown. I asked if they were going via Williams and got the reply "no we are going via Collie". They thought that they would soon come across Nanga Brook Road which was in reality ten kms behind them. Pulling out my map they figured they were lost and that they would head to Collie via Lower Hotham Road and the Harvey Quindanning Road.....hope they got to Bridgetown.
I then headed to Crossman and took the Crossman-Dwarda Road to link with the Wandering Pingelly Road. A quick stop at Brookton and on to Bally Bally via the Yenyenning Lakes Road. It was a good formed gravel road with only a couple of soft spots.
Arriving at Bally Bally in 35 degree heat, I was offered a cup of tea by BillB who was already well set up. Cookie and supporters were setting up a massive tent with a similar floor space to the historic hall. Unable to stay (no coffee shop, no IGA, no hotel) I headed back via West Talbot Road.
I had managed to have a tenuous link with all three events and still watch the brilliant Australia - Wales World Cup Rugby match live.

Re: Horizons of the Bally Lost Souls of the No Name Rally
I'm not sure who the lost souls were, perhaps they were just directionally challenged, or exploring new roads.
The No Name had over 120 attendees with appearances from Bear and Dawn, the Powell brothers, one fellow that flew in from Brisbane and borrowed a bike to attend and for Goldy and a few of the other old heads, Beetle flew to Alice and picked up a bike and dropped in on his way home ( to Victoria ) after calling in to see Harry and Jane. Wardy showed up and amazed us with his tall tales and of course the travelling minstrel made an appearance albeit a bit more set up than last year with his trailer.
the Pascoe rd ford was running at about half a metre which made the crossing fun , but that's why they are called boats .

Certainly more than at the camp cook off and they all rode bikes to get there, some even took their bikes on the dirt.old betsy wrote:Gee Bully

Hello Bully
Good to hear the No Name rally went well, FYI the cars at Bally Bally were a result of a. Snaga recovering from Bike accident and b. Me recovering from surgery.

You are very vocal for a non club member Mr Bully.bully1 wrote:Certainly more than at the camp cook off and they all rode bikes to get there, some even took their bikes on the dirt.old betsy wrote:Gee Bully

For your info there was some gravel involved in getting to the venue which all paid up club members thoroughly enjoyed. Yet another we'll run club event which paid up club members enjoy while belonging to BMWMCCWA. You should join up Bully

Great to hear the positive reports of the Camp Cook Off tonight at Spadille Garage and to see Snaga back to his sparkly self despite being a judge at the event.
Not sure that Tuna and 2 minutes noodles would have impressed him after weeks of hospital food but hearing the winner produced a five course meal was remarkable.

As this is a public forum Bill, I don't have to be a member to post on here, you may notice that I don't post in the members forum. I'm not a member as I no longer own a BMW, and owning up to being a member of the BMWMCCWA in public is no longer an honour but a point of ridicule.
The club of old were the front runners at many events and at one time were the organisers of Bike Rallies, with many members travelling huge distances to attend events, back in the time when you "run what you brung " now however it seems that the club members avoid being involved in anything run by another club or group, earning themselves the reputation as elitists ( a bit sad ) BMW riders are referred to as the "Latte riders " which I'm sure is not meant as a form of pride as were the "café racers "of old.

Re: Horizons of the Bally Lost Souls of the No Name Rally
FFS, I like all of you and ride with all of you….but this is just silly. So different people have different views of riding and enjoying motorcycles. It’s not a competition between three events on the weekend and who had more attendees or more gravel getting to wherever you are going.
If you want to be gnarly be gnarly, wear it like a badge of honour if you need that. But bikers don’t all have to be gnarly and tough, some can be gentlemanly about it, and some can be both.
It doesn’t matter.
Me personally I like the diversity of people and trips. I did the Bridgetown rally last year, had a blast, thoroughly enjoyed the company, enjoyed the ride and had too much to drink. I had a great time at the cook off this year. Had my girl on the back riding with a mate and meandered through roads not often or never before travelled. Enjoyed a few coffees and meals along the way and had a magnificent weekend and enjoyed the company, the venue and the lightning show. Yes, if the events were on different weekends I would probably do both, but quite possible next year they will be……
Bully, it is a pity that you are not a member anymore, you know I have always found you to be a great club man, organiser, ride leader and enthusiastic participant. But I’m sure we will still ride and camp a few times a year.
So that's my middle of the road view....let's get on.

Koos please don't be alarmed, it is just light banter to me, same as Harley Riders are pirates and KTM riders are just really sad people who like to push motorbikes, the off-road season is just about done so Sunday breakers will be back on the card next month.KoosWA wrote:FFS, I like all of you and ride with all of you….but this is just silly. BTW ...someone has parked a bloody X Challenge in my shed, it is a pretty well trained one with trips up the CSR and most recently was out and about with a DR on the Cave Hill and Holland Track trip a few months ago.

Re: Horizons of the Bally Lost Souls of the No Name Rally
Koos I think your reply to Bully is spot on.
Bully read the heading on this forum it says BMWMCCWA, BMW Motorcycle Club of WA
It is a forum funded and hosted by an incorporated association and opened to the public by invitation. That invitation is provided with some implied Terms and Conditions that generally relate to respectful and decent conduct free of politics and personal insults. Persons using this forum are invited to learn, share, enquire and generally socialise with others of similar interest. Users are expected to be respectful of the other users, the club, its sponsors and its members.
Your post quoted:
"As this is a public forum Bill, I don't have to be a member to post on here" - no but your invitation to post is a privilege and not a right, and so it comes at the discretion of the club members and moderators.
" you may notice that I don't post in the members forum. I'm not a member as I no longer own a BMW, and owning up to being a member of the BMWMCCWA in public is no longer an honour but a point of ridicule. " - if this is your personal view Bully it leaves me wondering why you continue to feel the need to frequent this forum
"The club of old were the front runners at many events .... now however it seems that the club members avoid being involved in anything run by another club or group, earning themselves the reputation as elitists ( a bit sad ) BMW riders are referred to as the "Latte riders " - If we enjoy a coffee so be it no harm there and as a club that invites all interested riders to visit and participate in its events and frequently promotes and advertises the activities of other rider groups i.e. the Horizons Unlimited event this past weekend I disagree with your statement of elitism. Look at the success of the clubs 40th celebrations, no one was turned away based on what they rode to the event and everyone had a good time. Many of our members are also members of other clubs like the Ulysses and VMCC, there is no elitism.
Now in the interests of letting discussion on the forum get back to its core topics enough of the chest beating lets put this to bed now and get on with enjoying our motorcycling.
