Northam Swap Meet

Post by wightman »

Anybody interested in seeing this display in Northam, we will be leaving from Cats at 8.00am SHARP on Sunday 21st February. So gulp down a quick cuppa, then saddle up. If we arrive after 9 in Northam, there will be only British bike spares left. Return at 11.00am via Bakers Hill, for the customary custard tart. John

John, as discussed I am in and will take sidecar.
If someone is looking for a free ride in the 3rd dimension (sidecar) I have a spare seat, please be in touch via my mobile, info available on club site.
Otherwise I will take the sandbags for a ride..

A very enjoyable swing out into the countryside and thence to Northam for the Swapmeet on the Oval. On arrival, we were greeted by the usual knick-knacks and some interesting old motoring parts. Good to see Mike Schmidt there, with Black Betty and a complete /5 headlight and short wheelbase toolkit and seat, mufflers and seat. Crusty Chris Davis from the Vintage Motorcycle Club was doing a roaring trade on Beezer bits as well as the unflappable Vaughn Leoni on his tank stand. If you weren't careful, you ended up with the same rubbish you flogged off to somebody else, 5 years ago. Our group managed to keep our hands out of our pockets, even after tripping over a magnificent 1938 Empire Star and a Rudge Whitworth in the back of a ute, and a meticulously restored BSA C11 for only $5k, right until the end, when a purler of a R100RS, reared up it head, for $800, missing only wheels (and the front brake calipers frozen onto the discs)

So much for the good intentions...............

Followed the swashbuckling Alex in the outfit, with Cookie acting as counterbalance and group's cashier. Met German Paul at Northam dithering on whether to go all the way or not...... Then Tim and Jodee flashed past.....The boys dived into unhealthy vanilla slices and exchanged further unlikely stories, till the sun threatened to dissolve into the eucalypt horizon in the west and the blokes dashed for home.
