Not the Mumballup Ride

There was a solid turn out to Catalanos' this morning despite the chilly weather.
Guy had his smick airhead and JonO arrived with his PD fault rectified. Swampy was presented with a BMW roundel for his new bike. Good to see Cookie and Karen there and to hear that Cookie's bike is back in town.
A Mumballup Ride was announced but there were no takers so a shorter ride was set to Bakers Hill.
A mob headed off on a short run through the Perth Hills to bag a pie at Bakers Hill. Big Al, Maree, JP, Giles, German Paul, Swampy, Ross + Patsy, GS Bill + Trish and Bozo took the Pickering Brook, Patterson Road, Walnut Road, Aldersyde Road route to Mundaring Weir Road. There were cyclists everywhere and the situation was exacerbated by mountain bike events crossing Mundaring Weir Road. We stopped for a regroup opposite the Dome in Mundaring to be greeted by eight sets of staring eyes. These belonged to a pack of husky dogs happy to be out in the cold weather that were on the back of a 4WD. Traffic was still a nuisance on Stoneville Road but thinned as we turned into Riley Road. We took Elliot Road to Chidlow and then the Old Northam Road to Woorooloo and Wundowie.
A quick canter past the horse riding school in Coates Road tipped us back onto the Great Eastern Highway to get to Bakers Hill.
An unusual discussion about bike bits was followed by demonstration of the E10 and E12 Torx on the GS and the fact that the older bikes have an E10 Torx securing the gear lever. German Paul split to get to his midday commitment and Al and Maree also left the group. The balance took Coates Road to Wundowie then Burma Road and Bailup Road to get to Berry Road...."too may bloody "B" roads Bozo" said one of the group "time to bring your A game".
At Clenton Road we were waved down by a sports bike rider saying that there had been a motorbike accident three corners ahead and that a woman was still lying on the road. We proceeded slowly and came across the group surrounding the rider on the road...hopefully it was just bruising. Nothing we could do as an ambulance had been called so we headed to O'Brien Road and took Lancewood Road to Brigadoon. As we descended the hill two motorcycle riders were trying to shepherd two kangaroos to a gap in the fence to get them off the road.
The ride concluded at the Stratton Caltex where we ran into a sad Swampy.
Mixed emotions today...it is very easy to drop a bike when the Black Cockatoos are shredding the eucalypts and easy to run into a kangaroo even during the day. Swampy was probably within a millimetre of getting control of a low speed incident.
Thanks to Swampy for running Tail End Charlie to Bakers Hill and the group for a mainly enjoyable day out.
