Cool Crew Vist Coldest Towns

Post by Bozo »

The Sunday breakfast was well attended. Good to see Wes with his newly purchased 1200 GS and Bry in full reflective gear. Not sure about the little red bike that Cookie was farkling.

Swampy, Kim, Tom, Wes, Ross, Colin, Dinga, BillB, GS Bill + Trish, Al, Eddy and Bozo headed for the frosty hills for a ride to one of WA's coldest towns, Wandering.

The hills were full of cyclists and slow moving vehicles as we rode past Canning Dam to the Albany Highway. It was with a sense of deja vu that Bozo checked on the numbers at Albany highway with another ten motor cycle riders joining the group. Last time this happened half of the group turned off towards Jarrahdale and five of our riders got lost.

All riders made it safely to North Bannister where the promise off freezing temperatures had Dinga head home and Swampy cool his heels in Boddington.

The ten riders that made it to Wandering were surprised by the balmy 10 degrees compared to the 5.5 degrees in the Perth hills. Swampy had commenced the process of freezing his extremities experiencing 3 degrees on the way to breakfast.

The circuitous route took us through the excellent twisting Dwarda Crossman Road before Bozo turned the wrong way at Crossman blaming lack of sleep.

We met up with Swampy in Boddington for a gentle ride on the now full width road all the way to Quindanning.

The psychological scars of past food service had Swampy self cater as we at huddled around a fire in the Quindanning Hotel.

The group split with Kim leading a ride back via the Lower Hotham Road and Bozo, BillB, Ross and Chris heading to Williams.

Bozo again made a wrong turn seeking out the Congelin site and subjected the group to 5 km of slippery gravel road before realising his mistake. Fifteen minutes later we were at the Congelin Campsite before heading to Dryandra Village.

Another stop for a puzzled Bozo at the Dryandra Arboretum was made before we hit the Lions Village at Dryandra having covered over 30 kms on gravel having assured the riders that it would be no more than a few kms.

The village is very attractive with what seemed to be a new hall and a kangaroo infested oval surrounded by cottages.

5 kms of good gravel and we were back on bitumen heading to Wandering via Phumpreys Bridge.

The lure of a warm coffee was too strong so we stopped at the Tanglefoot Winery for a sit down and a torque about truck gear boxes.

A quick blast home. Normally this post is done on Sunday but after a few hours of urgent chores the author fell asleep.

Sorry for the late report on an enjoyable but cold days riding.

I will be away to watch the Eagles play Collingwood next week end so another Bozo will be need to lead next Sunday's ride.
