Dren, Digger, Prof Dist, RM and myself are heading off on a 2 week ride on Mon 10/4. Meet up will be BP The Lakes (cnr Gt Eastern Hwy & Gt Southern Hwy) at 8.45am for a 9am departure.

Planned highlights/route will include:
- APY Lands
- Coober Pedy
- Transcon (starting at Kingoonya)
- Rawlinna for the Nullabor Muster on 22/4 http://www.nullarbormuster.org/

Let me know if you're interested in joining for all or part of the ride. The Muster might be a good ride on its own for someone to start a thread and coordinate.

Digger will be along shortly to call us slackers and post up his Spot link.

Oh... we'll be trainspotting on the Transcon for 3 or 4 consecutive nights. I'm sure we will have had enough after the first one rumbles thru in the wee hours.

E Mac not going? I thought he injected himself into all of the train spotting adventures.

I hesitated before proceeding with the thread title. Its a reference to the past-time not the movie.

However, BMW riding E Mac would be welcome anytime (hero of mine; wanne be like him when I grow up... note to self - get on with it ur running out of time).

Although I'd be worried about Digger. E Mac only rides with a fillum crew. Could be a clash of production/directorial wills out on the 'bor. My money would be on Digger to prevail... you know, midnight, boot polish crescent under the each eye, confront the insurgents with blade between the teeth kinda thing.

Sometimes, just sometimes, this forum is better value than the tube. Mind you, a couple of very, very large JD's may have clouded my judgement.

You blokes should put a script together. You have the bare bones of a Oscar winning production.

While traversing the trans rail track, can you please have a lookout for the containers that were strewn across the plains next to the track. I have always thought it might make for a nice gathering spot of some sort.

If the are still there, the coords will be much appreciated. Last I saw of them were when "A" and company passed that way in '15 I think.
Cheers

Digger and Jamie did preliminary script writing for an E Mac film called Rain Spotting in Rawlinna with the opening scene being a muddy hero emerging from a wombat burrow where he had hidden his 1200 GSA (a Suzuki DR was used in the pilot). The extreme rain meant our hero had to ride from spinifex bush to spinifex bush on a mission to meet the insurgents in the border village.

I thought Wingellina was a closed community but there is nothing i can find on their website to confirm that. If we are out that way (and we will be) i might be tempted to call in for an ice cream (about a 25 km deviation).

I hate being predictable...

G'Day Slackers,

SPOT Link is here:

The Nullabor Muster could be a good ride as indicated by _Wilks...some of the logistics have been made easier cause fuel is available at Rawlinna on the Sunday morning according to their website. That means you wont have to carry spare fuel to get there and back. You would expect the road from Kal to Rawlinna would be in good shape at this time of year.

SPOT activated from the departure point on Monday.

So much to do; so little time.
:P

Not the sort of news we want to hear. Bloody sand. Hope Chris has a speedy recovery and is back on his bike soon.
From the photos it looks like the weather is holding up for a great trip.
Keep safe guys and keep away from that horrible sand.

Sorry to hear this, hope Chris gets better soon.

My recent experience with two broken and three cracked ribs have taught me something about pain. I can just imagine how painful it must be with a punctured lung.

The road looks much sandier than usual, usually very hard and a 100 kph+ road, although a few patches around the Koolyaknobbing end through the lakes.
