So much to do. . . . .

Had nothin' on for March and I figure I should get out more (part of my New Year's resolution). I might also use this opportunity to go to Camerons Corner and do the Strezleki Track after the Safari seeing that I will be on that side of the country. There are still parts of this country I haven't seen yet.

G'Day Slackers,
Nearly time to suit up...

I will be departing on Tuesday 6 March and slabbing it to the start point (Thredbo). I might mix it up a bit on the return journey (Cameron's Corner, Innaminka, Strezlecki Track, Woomera, Lake Gairdner, Old Eyre Highway, Old Coach Road). The event is from 11-16 March. In 50 words or less;
Day: 0 Date: Sunday 11th March Location: Thredbo
Day: 01 & 02 Dates: Monday 12th March & Tuesday 13th March Destination: Bright
Day: 03 Dates: Wednesday 14th March Destination: Mansfield
Day: 04 Dates: Thursday 15th March Destination: Lakes Entrance
Day: 05 Dates: Friday 16th March Destination: Thredbo

SPOT Link is here;

SPOT activated from Tuesday 6 March.

Bozo/Cookie,
I am getting the bike serviced in Melbourne after the Safari. Any suggestions on 'must do' roads from Thredbo to Melbourne??? I have 2 days to fill in before the Monday.

So much to do...
:P

You have probably done them all:

Barry Way/Snowy River Road Jindabyne to Buchan. About 90km unsealed with lots of up and down and scenic views of the Snowy River

You can deviate at Wulgulmerang to McKillops Bridge and take the other bank of the Snowy River to Orbost.

A short but interesting ride is the Grand Ridge Road that goes from Mirboo North to Seaview...easy to get lost, I did. It has spectacular views both ways as you travel high in the Strzelecki Ranges.

There is a track that I have not taken from Tom Groggin to Corryong that gets good reports but it is quite steep and not good after rain. Corryong to Omeo is about half sealed. Tallangatta to Omeo is all sealed and is a brilliant road.

Another track that I have not taken is Cattleman's Track that starts around Nimmitabel and ends up at Candelo.

There is an iconic track at the back of Mount Buller called the Mount Buller Loop that includes Craigs Hut and Razorback. There are some impressive videos of the track. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_BkWhr_sFE.

Even though it is bitumen the Whitfield to Mansfield Road is not too shabby and there are a few dirt roads east of the road that pick up scenic features.

If I was running the Safari these are the routes I would take

Day: 0 Date: Sunday 11th March Location: Thredbo
Bitumen to Tom Groggin then dirt to Willow Crossing then gravel/bitumen to Omeo bitumen to Mount Hotham then the Blue Rag Range Road to Bright
Day: 01 & 02 Dates: Monday 12th March & Tuesday 13th March Destination: Bright
Bitumen to Myrtleford then dirt from Whorouly South to Whitfield a deviation to Chestnut then back on the bitumen to Mansfield.
Day: 03 Dates: Wednesday 14th March Destination: Mansfield
A rip up Mount Buller and dirt to Craig's hut, retrace steps to Merrijig and head to Jamieson and head through Licola to Heyfield then take bitumen to Lakes Entrance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpNBt0eup7w
Day: 04 Dates: Thursday 15th March Destination: Lakes Entrance
Barry Way to Thredbo
Day: 05 Dates: Friday 16th March Destination: Thredbo

So it seems you are going to cover most of my suggestions on the Safari.

It will be interesting to see your actual route.

Another suggestion for your trip back is the Bright Dargo road with spectacular scenery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3WkVGKG-8U

My previous post I confused the sealed Omeo - Tallangatta Road with the partly sealed Omeo-Corryong Road via Sassafras Gap.

I think there is still 76 km unsealed on the Omeo to Corryong Road. I suspect this will be your Australian Safari Route unless they take the Summer Track from Mitta Mitta to Tawonga.
