Mt Elvire Ride - Nov09

Who's interested?

This is a personal 5-day ride I'm planning - not a formal BMWMCCWA club ride. I ride a GSA, so this trip might be hard (I haven't travelled most of the tracks before), but not hard-core. 1600kms of dirt, 850kms of bitumen.

The camp spot at the end of Day 1 is Galena Bridge (Murchison River) on the NW Coastal Hwy so ROAD RIDERS CAN JOIN IN and then make their own plans to return home.

Looking at departing on Sunday 15th November. Alternative departure date Sun 8th or Sun 22nd is possible, but not my preference.

Dirt rides almost become impossible with a large congo line of riders. So, depending on the level of interest, we can break into small groups and simply meet up at the end of the day; the campfire gathering and yarns can be good fun.

I plan to deal with detailed arrangements via private email rather than in this forum. PM me with your email address if you're interested in going.

PS: The Sandstone to Menzies leg via Mt Elvire is 500km with no fuel stop. Those without that sort of fuel range can take a detour to Menzies via Agnew (refuelling at Leinster) and we'll gather again at Menzies.

Cheers
Shane

Love to have you along Ben. It's early days, but the 8th might be do-able, so perhaps you should pencil it in for now.

Hi - we live about 40kms north of Geraldton and may be able to join you to Galena Bridge. We can also be a coffee stop for the weary travellers on this run.
Both my partner and I have GS's and are keen to learn off road skills..........keep us posted.........John & Ruth

I'm also in, provided I'm not in China at the time. Kev, I'll trade you 5 litres of petrol at Mt Elvire for a glass of port, a vegemite sarmie and a tin of sardines.

OK tragics - emails have been sent to the starters.

Looks like 8 of us will be heading off on Sunday 15th November. The departure point & time is yet to be decided.

At this point it is - me, Richard H, Dren M, Robin M, Chris G, Kev W, John W & Gerry S (not a club member... yet!)

This ride is not by any means closed off - if you can join us, put up a post here and I'll email you some more details (I'll PM you for an email address if I don't already have it).

:!: Note - heavy wet weather is always capable of changing the route (be it a minor or major change) at any stage.

Any road riders interested in day 1 should begin posting up here (or on a new thread). Silence will probably see the 8 of us finding a non-bitumen way north on day 1 which may or may not involve a night at Galena Bridge.

G'day John & Ruth... haven't forgot about your very kind offer. Please keep checking here for updates. I'll PM you if it is confirmed we'll (the group of 8 ) be passing by on day 1.

We live off a gravel road and can be accessed from the east by a combo of gravel and tar. There is also a good combo of gravel from our place to just south of Galena Bridge. We also have 4 acres with lots of shady camp sites & BBQ_ we are happy to share our hospitality as an option to Galena for your Sunday nite rest stop then take you up the back roads the next morning ............cheers..........Kalpara

Sounds very very tempting. Thanks again.

I know where I'll be voting to stay :P

Sure beats jostling with the grey nomads for space (I should know - I qualify asa grey nomad >> got the 4WD + caravan + grey)

Grey is not a colour.
You don't pull in at 2pm to get the best spot surely then spend the rest of the day yarning about when you camped here last year and the price of diesel?

I'll follow up to Geraldton, on black top, stay with friends and return to Perth Monday.

If you do then you can't come.
Very astute question Kev... voice of experience maybe???

Nup. In true adv rider style, I drive till near dusk & find some track off the hwy to get out of sight. Then let the solar charged batteries run the appliances keep me in fine style. Sometimes I might tune in the sat tv if Fri night footy is on. Sheer lookshury.

While brushing up on nearly big words boys make sure you don't stir up too much or you might get pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosised.
It isn't that common and doesn't depend on how big it is, more likely where you go to get it.

Kev if you need to borrow a fuel bladder you can use mine, I'll be back from my quick lap but won't have enough brownie points to do this ride (bummer)

Send me a pm if you want to use it. I will be back around 1st november from Phillip Island.
