Long Way Down (to the farm) Ride 11 - 13 May

We've taken over the family farm down at the Kalgan, near Albany and it seems a good reason for a club ride. Details yet to be worked out but plan for a Friday afternoon road ride to Narrogin (or an early start catch up ride for Saturday starters) and camp the night. Then Saturday will be a longer ride down to the farm with both GS and TS routes planned with all routes suitable for BMW GS machines so those unreliable Suzukis can be left at home. There will be a support vehicle with bike trailer following and some capability to carry luggage for the GS riders. Accommodation at the farm is free bush camping where a decent sized log fire should be going. If it rains (unlikely near Albany in May!) there are a couple of sheds we can camp in.

If sufficient interest by the end of April I will confirm the ride details.

Good one Jeff, I'm in. I will post it on the website etc. http://www.bmwmccwa.asn.au/event-2881176
Probably best to record the number of interested members there rather than trying to keep tally on the forum

Hi Jeff, I registered my interest the other week however work looks like it is going to stop me from going on what look to be an interesting trip. Sorry but I will have to retract my expression of interest on this occasion bugger!

Empty house at the farm, no furniture, therefore sleeping indoors in front of the warm fire will be a distinct possibility...

BYO sleeping gear of course...

BBQ breakfast on Sunday morning prior to returning to Perth.

OR

Possibility of staying Sunday and returning Monday???

NOTE: There will be a car and a trailer along for the ride.

Drop your gear in the car/trailer for a doosey ride on an empty bike :P

Shame about the work, but I suppose someone's got to keep working to keep the country afloat. Thanks for letting us know, look forward to you joining another ride soon.

Thanks for keeping the communication channel open on the forum while I searched for my password!
Found it again now so back on the air.

I have pre-run the GS route last Saturday and the roads are in good condition. Each rider will be given a set of trip notes to follow so you can all ride at your own pace. The GS route is formed gravel roads with a couple of short two wheel track sections most of the surface is dry gravel. All of the route was traversed by my R1200GS and a Triumph Tiger 800XC road version last weekend. We don't expect any rain but if it got wet we could go around any slippery spots.

I have prepared a 'TS' route as well, again about 350km all on sealed roads out in open country through the wheat-belt. I will provide a Google Maps printout of that route to any riders who require it.

I will ride sweep/tail-end Charlie on the GS route and the car and bike trailer will follow the main highway and cross our route from time to time if anyone needs a lift (bikes included). As Nev has suggested there should be a bit of space to pack your gear in the car and ride an empty bike.

If anyone would like any further info on the ride you can call me on 0427 425 689

Jeff

I have gps tracked the route. If I win my argument with my Garmin Etrex then I should be able to email you the track to follow.
Otherwise it will just be trip notes and a paper map.
