Curtain Raiser

Post by Bozo »

What a difference in seven days with over five times the number of bikes turning out for Sunday morning.

There was a wide range of bikes from Alex with his immaculate "insurance policy" R1200c and Kim back on his K1600. Lefty was warming up his vocal cords for a brewery event and we also had an "official" visit.

Fifteen riders headed to the hills as a precursor to the most important derby in history.. The mob included Braam, GS Bill, German Paul, Kim, Angela, Ted, Ray, Stoy, Colin, David, Jack, Swampy and Bozo taking an Ape recommendation to do Repatriation Road in the Bickley Valley. The little loop was a pleasant winding scenic variation to make the link with Patterson Road and Walnut Road. An agitator truck saved us money by banking us up through a Multanova road side camera. A quick stop at Chidlow where a bike to bike fuel exchange ensured an airhead was not trying to run on air. Liberton, Mayo, Toodyay, Bailup, Burma and Coates Roads followed with the multiple turn offs almost losing several riders.

Twelve made it to Bakers Hill where a gentleman with a twelve speed push bike approached us to join the club. The majority of the group headed back down Great Eastern Highway, Inkpen Road and the York-Chidlow Road to get to the end of the ride at the Lakes Roadhouse. Returning home group members passed through another two speed cameras.

A great day for a ride, only temporarily marred by cyclists and a concrete truck. Lots of back roads with plenty of opportunity to lose participants. Thanks to Swampy and "Bright Eyes" Kim for letting me know how the tail of the ride was going.
