BMW SAFARI - NSW APRIL 2019

I have booked a berth on the Safari for April 2019. It sold out in less than 5 days.

At this stage I am looking at riding over to Windsor and would welcome some company. If interested let me know
It would be a pretty straight route over via a stop off in Canberra.
Coming back would be anywhere the roads and tracks take me.

Cheers Paul Knight

Paul,

I've signed up for the Safari and will also be riding over to the start point. I'll be leaving Monday 1st April and bush camping at Balladonia on the first night. Second night will be a Caravan Park in Ceduna. I expect to reach Windsor by Thursday evening.

They will be big days but will get me to Windsor in time to swap out my tyres before the Event and orientate myself before Registration.

The return journey will be a little more relaxed but i still need to be home by Good Friday.

We can talk closer to the day.
:P

G'day Slackers,

Paul has had to pull out of the Safari so I'll be representing the Club at this event.

I get up at 4am to get some work done. I flick to see where our Mongrel Dog has ridden off to, if he's in front of the rain and where he has picked up his tucker.

Boom! There goes half an hour! Best half hour I have spent all day so far.

This slacker has gotta get back to werk!

Stay dry and ride safe - looking forward to the next lot of pics.

Time for me to get training for our next big ride - thanks for the inspiration Steve.

I thought I had to get out more...you need a holiday!

Currently at Renmark (SA) tonight (Wednesday) and will stay at Bathurst on Thursday evening. I might try and break the lap record at Mt Panorama on Friday morning before meeting up with Jamie (JLS) in Windsor later that same day. Swap out my tyres on Saturday. Registration on Sunday. Safari starts on the Monday.

Stayed dry so far.

I’ve had a good rest over the last 36 hours and feel well relaxed and primed for the next 5 days of riding. 250 starters....historically, not all will finish. Safari starts tomorrow (Monday).See you on the other side

Today (Monday, Day 1), for me, was pretty straight forward. Not so for some other Riders. One Rider broke their lower leg and one bike was wedged between two trees after he left the track. Just as well the trees were there because otherwise the bike would’ve kept rolling down a steep incline and never have been recovered. Tomorrow (Tuesday) promises to be a big day...408 km over varied terrain

Image
Not a race or a rally. Start your engines. See you at the finish line.

Image
Most of the conditions today were easy tracks and easily managed. There were some technical sections just to keep you on your toes

Some very picturesque country as we criss crossed over the Great Dividing Range

The view from Heaton Lookout. A coal refinery in the distant background looking east toward the coast

Our ‘digs’ for the night...Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley. Some Riders were ‘banging on’ about the luxurious surrounds. I had to remind them that they have paid for it when they paid their Event Registration package (which wasn’t cheap$$$$$$).

Back to work Slackers...

Safari Day 3 update.
This is a ‘tame’ Safari (so far) compared to others I have been on. I haven’t been challenged in any of the conditions. That could change tomorrow (Thursday) with a difficult section option. I am undecided at the moment as to whether I will do the difficult section. I am a long way from home and riding an expensive bike which is costly to repair if it goes pear shaped.

Kindee Suspension Bridge. Completed in 1939 with the cost of the main Contractors life who died during its construction.

Having trouble uploading...I’ll try again later or tomorrow. In the meantime...

Thanks for the reports and allowing us to share your adventure.

The Kindee Bridge was officially opened on December 19, 1936 and celberated its 80th anniversary in 2017.

The 40 year old contractor, Roy Bernard Haydon, was one of three persons in a cage suspended from a flying fox when an ironwood stay broke and the cage dropped 75 foot to the river bed. Main Roads completed the bridge.
