Camp Cook-off @ Kweda: Saturday 21 September 2019 + PIX
UPDATE: Camp Cook-off per John W.
The Camp Cook Off will be on 21 September. With the help of our Country member, Jeff Douglas we have secured the KWEDA HALL, which is on the Brookton Kweda Road, about 20 kms south of the 40 Highway between Brookton and Corrigin. The co-ordinates are 32.38 deg S 117.42 deg E. It is about 5 kms from the Dwarlaking Pool which will still be worth a visit. The cost to register for this event, is $5 and having done this, all competitors will be able to avail of the facilities at the Kweda Hall. And then there are the PRIZES. We have been generously supplied by our usual sponsors, MUNICH MOTORCYCLES, 6 Hayden Ct Myaree, Paddy Pallin Camp store, 884 Hay St, Perth City, Tyres For Bikes, next to the Vic Park Hotel, Motorrad Garage, near the intersection of Welshpool Rd and Leach Hwy and AUTOCLASSIC, in Burswood.
This event is simply not to be missed. I will be leading a ride, leaving from Karagullen (cnr Brookton Hwy and Canning Road) at 1.30pm and is suitable for all types of motorcycles. There will be some sections of good gravel and we will not be racing to the Hall. Plenty of time to enjoy the environs and set up camp. Registration will shortly be commenced, so that you can book a place on this prestigious event on our calendar,
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This year's camp cook-off will take place at DWARLAKING POOL, on the corner of Dwarlaking Road and Wilson Road, about 170 kms east of Perth. It is 5 minutes east from East Pingelly. We will be able to camp there but I will try and organise the keys for one of the local halls, so that those inclined, may make use of it, also for the toilets. Access to the site is via either bitumin or dirt, or whatever combination you like. The last little dash to the site is good gravel road, so everybody can easily get there.
The rules are very similar to previously, with all the ingredients and cooking utensils to be brought in by motorcycle only.
The judges will be scoring the cooked products under three categories
1) Main meal (at least two ingredients have to be cooked in situ) (maximum 5 points)
2) Dessert (at least one ingredient has to be cooked in situ) (maximum 3 points)
3) Associated tipple (maximum 2 points)
So, out with those cookbooks and allow the creative juices to flow........
Judging will commence at 17.30 sharp and will wind up before 18.00 hrs
PRIZES GALORE!! Don't get left on the sidelines with this one.
Hoping for a big turn out for this one.
Any questions, pls call me on 0406112916 Cheers John W

I visited what I assume to be the Kweda Hall today - sign mentions 'Old School Site'. Signs along Brookton Hwy near Brookton stated 'No Fires'. At the 'Hall' is a small outdoor fireplace that has been used recently - small being the operative. The place is also inhabited by an infinite number of large mosquitoes, so be prepared.

Yes, Robbo there will be wood available for cooking.
We will be passing through Pingelly/Brookton around 3pm, so will spend 10 mins to collect last minute supplies......then onto the site to bunker down against the insects. Maybe an idea to bring some OFF or RID to keep them at bay.
On the Sunday morning, I intend to leave for the Dwarlaking Pool, for a sneak peek, after 8am and then head for home afterwards.
I'll have a litre of milk for anybody who needs for their coffee in the morning...........
One more sleep people. Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Re: Camp Cook-off UPDATE: Saturday 21 September 2019
Yay, another BMW Motorcycle Club of Western Australia Camp Cook-off
It's one of your club's annual events where our awesome sponsors dish out great prizes for carefully crafted cooking... camping-style
Honestly, it's really something to get excited about. The event is in the country. Normally around 200 km from Perth. It allows members from the country areas a bit of a reprieve from trekking up to Perth for gigs.
An enormous 'Thank you' to Narrogin members JD and Sandra for preparing the venue, carting the fire pot down from Perth and setting it up, the wood, beer, the morning tour, and and and... Always a pleasure to see our country members leading the way.
Kweda was another of those great country hall venues with a surprising number of mod-cons. The local gentlemen who were there when we arrived where more than happy to have their hall used for such an auspicious occasion

Re: Camp Cook-off UPDATE: Saturday 21 September 2019
Our plan was to meet up at the Mundaring Dome for 10.00 start.
Following several hundred vehicles and a very-slow-wide-load up the Great Eastern Highway to Mundaring put the brakes on leaving on time. Luckily our little group of 5 were all really chilled about rushing off.
On arrival at the Dome, Neil practiced for the 'Squirt of the Day' award. Nice try Neil... next time ... He sat back rather forcefully on his camel-back. This force popped the hose off the camel-back and created a high fountain up and over his head
After much laughter, we high-tailed it into the bush. No mucking around with Jean at the helm!
All bikes at full weight, full fuel, heavily-laden carrying all the cooking competition gear, some even tossed on the Weber, straight onto a sandy 2-wheel track.
Soon some of us got a little 'flat'...
Some just went 'plop!' Yeah, that was me... the 'plop' not the 'flat'... Thanks Gents for helping out. Glad to be riding with friends.

Now out onto the country dirt roads...
Water-abound... every dam and salt pan covered and filled...
Next stop, Lake Mears...
What? no swimming?
An archaeological artifact from a better time, no doubt...
How does it go? Just another spring day in WA

Re: Camp Cook-off @ Kweda: Saturday 21 September 2019 + PIX
The judges were put to work. The size and complexity of the scoring matrix has to be seen to be believed.
I take my hat off to our judges and their commitment to the task, between tipples of port, whisky, champagne, white and red wine, etc, even walking passed Noel's rum and coke was an unenviable task...
Judges on the job...
Judges had to decipher all manner of gimmicks to score entrants
Some members even brought in their own celebrity chefs. "Hey, I brought her in on the motorbike. Yes, it was a HD..." says JD
