It is with much regret that the German Paul Memorial Ride I organised for the 30th April has now been suspended for obvious reasons until we are clear from this current epidemic.

Of course it is unknown at this stage when we will be able to enjoy another group ride but meantime look after yourselves and keep your oil warm 8)

Regards to all

With the small easing of restrictions on group gatherings it has been suggested that we go ahead and organize Paul's Memorial Ride with groups of 10 riders leaving at appropriate intervals and Quindanning was mentioned as a destination.

Although this plan has merit and may be acceptable to some I personally would prefer to delay the ride for a couple of weeks longer, when I think the Premier may well lift our Regional Boundary Restrictions as I suggest he is under immense pressure from the WA Tourist Industry to kick start The States economy in that very lucrative market!

May I also suggest that a ride led by either Peter or Brian/5 through our beautiful Darling Range to a destination of their choice may be preferable to the one suggested to Quindanning?

My reasoning is based on number 1, Paul loved riding through our Local Hills and preferred a destination too our closer regional towns like York, Toodyay and Goomalling for instance.

Number 2 reason is, Once our regional restrictions are lifted I think destinations such as the very popular Quindanning Hotel will be inundated with masses of riders and I for one prefer not to wait an hour for a meal to be delivered!!

A third reason to consider my suggestion is that a shorter ride may also attract more participants to commemorate Paul's passing?

Of course you are very welcome to either agree or disagree with my proposal or of course recommend an alternative plan?

I look forward to your feedback!!

Regards to all and Stay Safe folks!!

We can ride to Quindanning now and the hotel is open for takeaway food and drinks.
It is located within the Shire of Boddington which is in the Peel Region but you need to go via Dwellingup.
By the way it was German Paul’s last Sunday ride.

Okay Chris, In that case what is everyone's opinion on making this ride for this THURSDAY 30th APRIL German Paul's Anniversary?

I would propose we meet at the Dome Car park in Kelmscott at 0900hrs.

If there are more then 10 riders attending we would then depart at suitable intervals in order to comply with the Premiers instructions

I would invite Bozo to lead the ride if available and I will be happy to take up my normal Tail End Charlie duties!

Please reply ASAP people voicing your opinion and/or intentions please ?

I would also be happy to make arrangements to do another memorial ride for Paul on one weekend after our to regional restrictions are lifted for those who are unable to attend this Thursday's ride due to work or other commitments!!

Hello Swampy, I think it's terrific that you are so committed to honour Paul by organising a memorial ride as soon as practicable, it says a lot about you as a person and as a stalwart of the club.

The timing of the ride is of course a sensitive topic in many ways and the last thing I want to do is tell people what I think they should do to support this initiative. Only because you have asked people for feedback here is my two cents worth - ideally I would like to see an event held when restrictions have been lifted sufficiently to allow for members to congregate as one, both prior to setting off as well as when we arrive at a venue.

Of course I think your ride idea for this Thursday is a brilliant gesture given the easing of restrictions on group sizes to 10 people and I am sure the venue will have the right practices in place .

Regards

JP

I was out for a ride yesterday with the Leader Of The Opposition. We were stopped and turned back at the roadblock on Albany Hwy, near the roadtrain assembly area, Bedfordale. We were told that this was non essential travel and must return home. Of course we just went by a different route.
As many others will know, it's not worth arguing with a copper even when you are right and I'm sure that a couple of convoys of bikes out for a jolly would get some plods knickers in a twist.
Unless we all carry a wicker picnic hamper on the back it's probably best left until later.

To both JP and Ian, I appreciate your thoughts and feedback from two very long term a and terrific members of this very fine club.

Firstly JP, Your thoughts echo my own feelings about waiting for more restrictions to ease before venturing out!

I will say this though, that this Thursday being the first anniversary of Paul's sad passing it would be a nice gesture to pay tribute to his his memory on this particular date.

I would also like to think that our club members are mature and sensible enough to willingly comply with the distancing rules as none of us wants or desires to become a statistic.

Ian, I know about the Police block on Albany Highway but as Bozo has pointed out, Quindanning is accessible by riding through Dwellingup and Lower Hotham road which is not outside of our legal bounderies.

Obviously the authorities would prefer for people to remain at home but we will not be bending or breaking any rules if we conduct this ride in a sensible manner!!

I would like for both you and JP to attend if you are able but it is up everyone's individual decision!!

I say that the bike ride will go ahead as planned this Thursday as I have also had some positive feedback from a other members!!

Regards and Best Wishes to all

Hi Steve, Although I had some dealings and was the person who sadly found out Paul had passed away, I found with Paul he was not one to open up a great deal about his personal life and history.

I have asked Bozo if he was able to supply with you some notes?

Meantime I am now putting a call out to all club members to contact Digger if they are aware of Pauls life and or history personal ans as a club member please?

AND WITH APOLOGIES TO DIGGER FOR MY TYPO NOW FIXED

Thank you

Sorry Digger

May I suggest to all of you reading these posts about Paul Kellars Memorial Ride that you contact your mates and contacts to let them know this event is happening on Thursday please?

It has been short notice and not everyone reads these posts on a regular basis and I would hate for someone to miss out on this ride because of the lack of warning.

Thanks
