A Swampy Ride Friday 24th July

Post by Swampy »

Due to people having other commitments this Wednesday and rain expected on Thursday I propose to have the "Pensioners and "Others" ride this coming Friday 24th July !!

Meeting at Mojo's Cafe in Mundaring at 0900hrs for a coffee and chat before heading out on a ride to a destination decided by the majority on the day.

If you have a particular destination in mind, don't be backward in coming forward with your ideas 8)

PS. And if you haven't already registered to attend the clubs "Christmas in July Function on Saturday the 25th July get your name in now before the cut off of the 21st July.
You reap what you sow so I encourage you all to attend and participate the club functions in order harvest the abundant benefits of friendship, fun, frivolity and sense of belonging which has always been part and parcel of this great club 8)

PS. You can even bring your wife if you really feel the need!!

I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

I'll be there for a coffee but I don't think a ride is on the cards.

Never say Never they reckon as my bike temp. gauge hit the magical Zero Celsius as this young Pensioner rode through Pickering Brook on my way to meet 6 SSFR's (Senior Self Funded retiree's)
at Mojo's in Mundaring for a very welcome hot coffee at 0900 hrs today.

Nick even indulged himself with a very large tasty looking Egg and Bacon Roll which he managed to consume in about 30 mouth watering seconds as flock of hungry frost bitten vultures watched on in envy!!

Nick, Ross (Scruff), Bill C. Steve Nurzo, Wes,with Brian/5 acting as TEC were led straight up GEH to The Lakes turnoff by yours truly taking the lead for a change.

Scruff needed to be home early so the group opted for a run up to West Talbot road in a countryside shrouded in mist and fog which never let up until we reached our destination for the day in a town North East of Perth

Bills bike was running a tad cold so he decided to warm his engine by rapidly disappearing into the fog and mist which was West Talbot Rd.

We eventually caught up with Bill on the turnoff for York and the elderly among'st the SSFR's took the very welcome opportunity for a comfort break, as did the one lone pensioner

I guess you could call it a cool and refreshing ride but I reckon others had another name for the cold and damp conditions with little traffic to hinder the groups progress through York and onto the back road to Northam.

From there we took the scenic River Road before eventually pulling into a little country town where the mob descended on the busy staff and ordered hot food and chips (Thanks Nick)

We sat and slowly defrosted our bodies as the Sun at long long last burnt the mist and fog away and brightened this pretty little town which is somewhere north east of Perth 8)

Trips away, some organised by the Club were discussed in detail as was tomorrow nights Xmas In July Dinner.
Nurzo will be heading away East and North on a dirt road trip up to the WA/NT Border for a few weeks welcome break from domestic duties duties while Wes discussed the possibility of staying overnight in a motel with electric blankets, air con, cold beer and hot breakfast as an alternative to camping out under the stars on the upcoming "Not the Border Run" with baked beans for breakfast lunch and tea :P

However all good things must come to an end and the group dispersed on separate and varied routes home with one big question on all our minds.......Where was the recently retired Lefty :?: :?: .......Harmonica frozen to your lips mate or was it a touch of stage fright :?: :?: :?:

A good day with great company so Thanks to all who braved the elements and to Brian/5 for acting TEC 8)

Thanks Swampy
It was a great ride and every corner lifted the spirits of the crew. Thanks to Brian for pointing out my poor alignment from the TEC position. I’m sure it’s my front wheel but it could be my eyesight as I peered thru the mist. After all I never spotted Poodle Rock, the eagle or the roo. Just tarmac and moisture. Thankfully I had better foresight or just good luck as I made my way past the local constabulary on my way home on the glorious Julimar Rd.
A great day all around
