Deflating day for Swampy

A subdued attendance this morning with DFS standing out in his immaculate set of BMW gear without even one coffee or pie stain. One of the Ferruginous Ferals (Digger, HRG and JP) was on hand to outline the Canning stock route trip but was more like a Wilunatic in being understood. Anyway, Wilunatics or Ferruginous Ferals we wish you an interesting and enjoyable trip. Clayton and Sjoukje were down from the Mid West again having attended the Christmas in July event. No wonder his BMW looks sharp...it is only a week old 1250RT.

Having announced that we were going to Swampy's favourite destination (Toodyay) it was deflating when a nail was discovered in his front tyre. A mob crowded around his immobilised bike as six riders and a pillion left for the Sunday sojourn. A run past the Optus Stadium and up the Tonkin Highway got us to Ellenbrook and then Gingers where in a matter of minutes we were at full strength of Just John, Clayton + Sjoukje, Andy, DFS, Nannup Nick and Bozo. A re-visit to the Stirling Tree http://inherit.stateheritage.wa.gov.au/ ... c61ec47012 and then a run up the scarp via Campersic Road interrupted by ducks walking across the road. A few dips on Lancewood Road and then O'Brien Road to get to Brock's memorial. It will be 14 years in a few weeks since Brock lost control on a steep off camber damp corner and crashed into a tree. From there we headed down Berry Road and Reserve Road to get to Gidgegannup. A run along Bailup, Burma and Coates Roads got us to Bakers Hill where heading on to Clackline we took the Clackline Toodyay Road. We passed Swampy who had already been in Toodyay and was heading home.

A quick break at the Bakery in a town full of vintage motorcycles and a small drama with a recalcitrant security device on Nannup Nick's helmet. We headed home along the Brian/5 run past the racecourse and along Stirlingia Drive to get to Sand Plain Road emerging at Fernie Road. An uneventful run home.

A very enjoyable day.

Thanks to Nannup Nick for his impeccable work as tail end Charlie. Great to have new faces along as well. DFS did very well on his first Sunday ride since his accident but had a slight accident with his protective gear.

Hands up those who have ridden helmet-less down the main street of Toodyay  . I am now one of them after a locking strap refused to release my helmet. However, the strap was powerless when faced with the full force of the determined Bozo who made short work of it thanks to a pair of cutting pliers. Thanks Bozo.

The ride was lovely to Toodyay and we timed it perfectly to avoid an unsavoury character who tends to frequent those parts. (Just kidding! Sorry we missed you.) New member Andy enjoyed himself, saying that he discovered some new roads that he hadn't ridden before, and I'm sure Clayton will be welcome back at Catalano's any time. Another great day out.
