DFS Ride This Thursday 27th August
"I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains.
Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

Re: DFS Ride This Thursday 27th August
DFS's ride was hijacked. While we were waiting for him to arrive there was a discussion where we were going to have lunch. As Ross was missing there were several votes for Greenhills. So when DFS gave us his route with no mention of the dining location Greenhills won through.
Considering there were only two attendees who replied on the forum it was a suprise to have eleven turn up to Mojos. Paul only joined us for morning coffee. So it was Brian/5, Eddy, Kim, Digger, Nick, DFS, Wes, Chris and Robbie who headed off via the usual ratrun out through Soneville to Wundowie. Then via GEH via Bakers Hill to Clackline. With several road bikes it started out a non dirt trip. However during the break on Eadine Rd. Nick expressed a desire for dirt after Cookies trip had wetted his appetite. Then back to the GEH down Trimmer to Spencer Brook Rd. Crossed the Avon via Burges Rd.
Chris carried on directly to York to refuel as he wasn't originally planning on the ride only talked into it at Mojos. Kim on his road six decided to try the dirt. We then turn up Quellington to pick up the dirt on Sees Rd. Crossing Goldfields. So far the dirt was very smooth so Kim decided to continue on the dirt. Cameron road had a few short corrugated section but overall still quite good. The last turn was onto Doodenanning. The timing was spot as we were approaching the Tavern Chris was arriving from the other direction.
As we arrive just before noon our orders we in before another group of motorcycle riders arrived who expected to be the only ones for lunch. Burgers were the choice of the day. For the return home some decided to go directly with seven decided to go via dirt again. However we lost David who checked on DFS in York and then was delayed due the careful extraction of a bee from his helmet. We though he joined DFS for the direct ride home. DFS had decided to play it safe and not trust the old GS for second run on the dirt.
The dirt section home was by crossing the Avon R via Wilberforce then Waterfall and Mokine to Clackline. After Bakers Hill the group again split with some going directly home via GEH and three via the ratrun. The day highlighted some great scenery with the bright yellow canola contrasting against the dark green wheat fields.
Thanks guys for a great day.
