Surprisingly good Catalano's turn up today with the Camp Cook Off on.
A mob of 14 riders including Prof Dist, Kim + Andrea and Russell headed to the hills through heavy traffic. A stalled bike had a sub group make their way to Mundaring via Kalamunda whilst the rest took Repatriation Road, Patterson Road and Walnut Road through the blossom filled Bickley Valley. There were cyclists and wildflowers everywhere (no picking the wildflowers and no picking on the cyclists). We greeted Andy and Just John at the first lost point but traffic meant a circuit through Chidlow and Lion Road to get to the Lakes. The traffic to York was continuous making for several attempts to get onto the Southern Highway but it settled down when we got to Talbot West Road only to be startled by event ahead signs and run into a full blown cycling race. At this stage we were a group of GS Bill, Just John, Andy, Firey Ross, Sophie, JC, Stoy, Frank, Peter Bee + Mei and Bozo. We skirted around York and took Burgess Siding Road to get to Spencers Brook . We passed a strange situation with a police vehicle pulled up with flashing lights with the officer walking around on the phone.
A stop at the packed Bakers Hill Bakery where it was difficult to get away from waste disposal problems. JC had started the day with a new white helmet but it was fluorescent yellow after battling with the Canola crop honey laden bees.
A run home along Coates Road and Government Road landed us in a car show jammed Chidlow forcing us past a junior motorcycle event with its fumes of Castrol Racing oil to get back to Mundaring.
A stunning days ride through colourful country. Lots of riders helped keep the group more or less organised. Thanks to Prof Dist and GS Bill trying to iron out problems. The work by tail end Charlie Peter Bee and his publicist Mei was much appreciated.
