Cool Running

The prospect of a cool day attracted over 40 bikes to Catalano's this morning. Robin was explaining the Rock, Roll and Rain modes on the R18 with hands on demonstrations. Beemer Dave has temporarily slung his bike riding hook but wings it regularly to the breakfasts. Much talk about tyres and given the recent occurrences of flat tyres we have a new position on Sunday Rides - Nail and Sharp Ends Charlie.

Nine fronted for the pie run being Nick, Andrew, Frank, John, Sophie, DFS, Chris (Prof Dist), Peter and Bozo. We were only half way down Orrong Road when Wes and Swampy dropped in on our wave and effectively led the ride to Stoneville. Prof Dist dropped onto a dirt road on his K1600 at Mundaring and we were eventually free from Swampy and Wes to travel down Roland Road and on to O'Brien Road. Lots of black Cockatoo detritus and cyclists on the road but apart from a few emus close to the edge of the road in the Chittering Valley it was uneventful until we hit a Harley Rider who had rolled his rear tyre and broken the bead with the rim on a corner. We could not help and left then waiting for a tilt tray recovery truck. John was taking on the role of Nail and Sharp Ends Charlie lowering his gaze to the roadway in front of the bikes looking for tek screws and other tyre threatening objects.

Our timing at the Bindoon Bakehaus was impeccable with 60 bikes leaving for lunch at Seabird and the only delay was whilst the shelves were restocked. After tasting the pie range the group split up with half travelling home via Blue Plains Road.

A great day out and with our eagle eye John acting as Nail and Sharp Ends Charlie we had no problems. Thanks to Peter for running as Tail End Charlie and for Andrew and DFs for corner marking.
