Thursday Ride March 25 MOJOS MUNDARING

Postby pspencer » Wed Mar 24, 2021 7:40 am

Did someone say Wongan Hills? Yes someone did, so have you been there? Recently? Sounds like a plan to me. Up through Toodyay and Goomalling and back through Calingiri to GNH, possibly. Forecast max temp is 27, perfect. :P
Departing Ascot Shell 7:45 to hit the hills for a coffee etc at Mojos then a 9 ish departure.
(Google Maps says 2.2 hr and 171km fastest route to get there.)

The above plan followed through. Brian, Noel, Robbie and myself at Ascot Shell motored up to Mojos Mundaring in cooler 16 degree weather. Met up there with Nick ( on route to Norseman, to eventually get to Adelaide ), Ross, Bill, DFS, Robin and finally Swampy. But Noel and DFS were only there for a chat and did not join us on the ride. That left 7 leaving Mojos and heading East.
Some drama on the way on the opposing Western heading side of GEH, about halfway between Sawyers Valley and the Lakes, with what appeared to be 2 motorcyclists down after possibly side swiping each other, 2 bikes on their sides but spread apart, one rider in the Emergency Chopper, having landed on GEH, and the other about to be loaded into an Ambulance. At least a km of trucks and cars stopped on the GEH whilst the mess was sorted. Luckily we were heading East. Sobering sight.
We waved farewell to Nick as we turned off at Clackline to head to Toodyay. Have a safe and rewarding trip Nick. Swampy could not go past the attractions of Toodyay and Ross had to leave at Toodyay to return home to look after his sick dog. Ross hope all is well. So it now left 5 diehards to continue to Goomalling and our lunch stop of Wongan Hills.
We found the Bakery in the middle of town doing a steady business, so with the temperature around 26 degrees, we took our rolls, sandwiches, quiche and drinks onto a couple of tables on the footpath. Very pleasant, with Wongan Hills being larger and busier than expected and obviously a major farming centre.
The return route was Wongan Hills to Calingiri, to GNH, Bindoon, Chittering Valley, Swan Valley, to home. Back just before 3pm having done a total of approx 370km. Perfect weather for a very pleasant journey into the Wheatbelt.
Thanks to all for scintillating company and B5 for superb TEC duty.
