Washing the Wet Weather Gear

A subdued gathering at Catalano's this Sunday with only 12 bikes and a lot of members opting for the car/truck. New member Terry turned up with a 2006 BMW R1150R in excellent condition.
An apprehensive quartet assembled being DFS, Nannup Nick, Peter Bee and Bozo to try and dodge the rain. In the first stage of the ride we managed to outrun the drizzle with it clearing up just past the airport. Peter Bee took the lead and guided the group through Sir John Forrest National Park where the wildflowers were just getting underway and one sleepy roo kept well clear. Taking Brooking Road we went past the Parkerville Tavern and went through Mount Helena to get to Sawyers Valley. A stop at the Lakes to discuss tyre repairs before a run along Talbot West Road, Talbot Road and Cut Hill Road to get to York. A pile of Porsches peppered the main street as we rode to Spencers Brook and then on to Trimmer Road. The crops were luxuriant with a little bit of waterlogging. Surprisingly the Canola was in full bloom and neatly matched the wet weather gear of several riders.
A pie at Bakers Hill was our last meal before the weather executed full force rain. The strategy to doge and weave the black clouds by zig zagging along Oyston Road, Inkpen Road, Hawke Road, Vineyard Road and Government Road was to no avail. A saturated group of riders pulled up Wooroloo to complete their weather protection. As luck would have it that was the last of the heavy rain.
Like a Curate's egg, the ride was good in parts with the brilliant yellow of the Canola crops and the dark green cereal crops contrasting with the many shades of grey and black in the sky. A common statement when we stopped was "look how dark the sky is where we are heading". A lot of water in streams and in paddocks. Good to get out with an adventurous group of riders. Thanks to Peter Bee for leading and tail ending and to DFS for substituting as tail end Charlie.
