Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

Ross Higgins, like Swampy you should have a poem incorporated into your replies “I love a controlled burnt country, with roads with sweeping bends, with rugged Darling Ranges full of vollies on which Australia depends, I love Diggers videos on her far horizons, I love her jewelled sea, but for beauty mixed with terror it is a black BMW 1250 RT for me”

A small group of geriatrics gathered at Mojo's this morning with Brian/5 deciding he would visit Collie and Wellington Dam in order to see the mural which adorns it's wall.

Scruff arrived minus his two wheels with the excuse being "It's too windy!!'' to ride his mountain bike!! However he well and truly lived up to his nickname sporting a weeks growth of bum fluff!!

Five of us decided a shorter run was the order of the day and as I was feeling either brave or stupid mentioned I wanted to lead four rather butch BMW riders down the newly sealed "Lovers Lane" which runs off Toodyay road!!

The Clubs newest co winner of the Clubman Of The Year Award Wes Sweetman led the first part of our ride through the back blocks of the hills until we reached Toodyay Rd. where I took over the lead.

Lovers Lane is quite a pleasant diversion through some scenic countryside and was a nice change from our normal routes through the hills!

Thankfully I eventually emerged unscathed and unmolested onto Julimar road which was a big relief for me given doubtful characters chasing Black Beauty's exhaust!!
Wicked Wes, Nannup Nick, Wiley Bill and Unsteady Eddy's behaviour was impeccable for a change managing to maintain their distance at an acceptable level allowing BB to retain her dignity and decorum.

It was rather a lengthy break at the Cola Cafe and very enjoyable as we all had something to contribute to the conversation, apart from Mackeral Eddy to sat their like a stunned mullet listening to the groups war stories!!

We eventually drifted off taking Julimar road through to Bullsbrook where the group split up for home after a very pleasant day riding in the Summer Sun!!

Thanks all for a great day out!!

The first Thursday this summer with forecast temperatures below 30 degrees. So why waste an ideal day for a ride, opted for a longer ride as there may no be another like it for a while. Besides going to look at the Collie murals wanted to see the Wellington Dam Mural. The dam is at its fullest for a few years, over 90% capacity. No-one else wanted a longer ride so it was a solo run.

A loop around the main central block in Collie to view a few of the more obvious Murals. To appreciate them fully all you would need to spend more time and walking the block. However, decided to spend more time looking at the Dam. The mural is a magnificent piece of work. Also adding to the spectacle was the outlet pipe at full flow. A Blue Wren flitter among the rocks to finish the scene.

The ride home started along the enjoyable River and Henty Roads. Great without any traffic. The day finally warming up to 28 degrees for the home leg.

A great day riding, totalling 525km

Brian
