Re: 5th Annual Great Nannup Getaway: October 22, 2022
Hi All, Well folks it's only 5 short weeks now before we head off to Nannup for another weekend of riding some great roads in good company to that lovely little town of Nannup!
Numbers are growing slowly and if you intend accompanying us to Nannup, Now is the time to get yourself booked in either at the Hotel, Caravan Park (one hundred metres down the road) or into a B&B!!
The more the merrier and looking at the list of names on the Event List you will only have yourself to blame if you don't enjoy yourselves!!
A great bunch of people and a great club with no end of camaraderie on tap!!
That's the UP side and now for the Downside::
Peter, who has led the last four expeditions so capably taking us on some wonderful different routes to our destination and return will be unfortunately overseas sipping on Saki and getting acquainted with the local Mama san's and will be therefore unavailable this year!!
Now I could lead the ride on the 22nd and I will if necessary but you would have to accept a mediocre type of trip if I do as I am not conversant with all the backroads of the South West!!............. I could maybe manage Toodyay!!
So I will put it out to you folks for someone to volunteer their expertise and experience to take on the onerous duties of Ride Leader!!
To assist, Peter is prepared to supply his old route notes if that may tip the scales somehow
Let me know if you are interested and we will go from there!! Thank You.
So once again folks, Get your names on the Events List so I can confirm numbers with The Nannup Brewing Company for the evening meal Saturday and at Melo Velo for Breakfast Sunday morning!!
Cheers

Re: 5th Annual Great Nannup Getaway: October 22, 2022
Hi All, Only about 3 x Weeks now before we depart on our annual pilgrimage to Nannup!!
A couple of updates for riders and partners joining us on the journey from the North Dandalup Servo on the corner of South Western Highway and Del Park Road, North Dandalup.
I have had no offers from anyone willing to do Lead Rider duties so with an old route map of Peters I will attempt to follow his directions through some back roads on what should be a fairly interesting ride!!
Our Lunch Stop Destination will be The Bush Shack which is located on Ferguson Road in the Ferguson Valley at approx. 1130hrs. on Saturday morning for those of you who wish to make your own way there!!
Tables have been booked and reserved for our group!!
From there we will continue on our journey hopefully arriving in Nannup at around 1600 hrs.
Once again I have booked us into the Nannup Brewing Company (50 metres from the Hotel) for an Evening meal for 1800 Hrs.
Unfortunately, The Melo Velo Cafe WILL NOT be available this year for Breakfast Sunday morning as they no longer open on Sundays due to staff shortages!!
There does not appear to be any other venue available for an early breakfast in town and as I have not organized a led ride home, riders will have to make their own arrangements for obtaining breakfast from either Bridgetown, Donnybrook or an available Road House.
If anyone has any queries please don't hesitate to contact me. My details are available on the Private Forum!!
Regards to all

Re: 5th Annual Great Nannup Getaway: October 22, 2022
Thank you Mark, well folks only two weeks to go now and numbers are looking great for what promises to be a top weekend of good company and humour once again!!
The weather is looking terrific for the trip down but it looks like we may cop some rain on the return journey so make sure to pack your wet weather gear!!
A reminder that we will be meeting at the Servo on the corner of South Western Highway and Dell Park Road, North Dandalup at 0830 hrs.
This will give you the opportunity to top up your fuel tanks and to grab a coffee before our departure at 0900 hrs.
I will be leading the ride and I am looking for a volunteer to act as Tail End Charlie!!
As we also have a significant number of riders we will be utilizing Corner Marking so we don't lose anyone on the way.
I will give a quick briefing before we leave so everyone is aware of their responsibilities during the ride!
Hopefully, I won't lead you too far astray from the intended route to our Lunch Stop which is The BUSH SHACK BREWERY on FERGUSON ROAD, FERGUSON VALLEY.
For those of you wishing to travel solo that is our meeting spot. 1130 hrs. (We are Booked In)
Our next stop will be DONNYBROOK where we will stop for refueling at a servo of your choice before gathering at the RAILWAY STATION CAR PARK for those wishing to use the toilet facilities.
The run from there will possibly be a straight slab to KIRUP for those wishing to sample some Kirup Syrup at the local pub.
Next destination BALINGUP and onto that twisting and winding road to NANNUP.
For those of you who have not travelled this road before BE WARNED, It can be quite dangerous with plenty of sharp bends and dozy car drivers cutting corners!! So please Take it Slow!!
A few bevvies at the the Nannup Pub then onto The Nannup Brewing Company at around 1800 hrs. for Dinner (We are Booked In).
I remind you that the Melo Velo is now closed on Sundays so there will be no early open cafes available for Breakfast for us this year!!
I Have Not Planned a route home and will leave that for individuals to make their own plans,
That's it Folks, Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday the 22nd!!
Regards to All

Re: 5th Annual Great Nannup Getaway: October 22, 2022
NEWS FLASH!!
Here's an update on an update Folks,
I had a meeting with Mark this morning and discussed routes to take to Nannup on Saturday!
Mine was a rehashed version of a trip we did a couple of years ago while Mark has come up with a Brand New alternate route which promises to be an exciting new excursion for those of us who have completed previous trips to Nannup.
As a result we have decided that Mark will now lead the ride and I will bring up the rear as Tail End Charlie!!
Still meeting between 0800-0830 at the North Dandalup Servo for a projected departure of 0900 hrs.
There are approx. 28 on the ride and I will give a short briefing before our departure regarding Corner Marking as a refresher so we hopefully complete the journey as a group!!
A toilet break suitable for both genders and for those in between will be organised before our stop for lunch at The Bush Shack Brewery, Ferguson valley. An updated arrival should see us the around 1100 -1130 hrs.
Next stop for refueling is Donnybrook and once refueled regrouping at the Public Toilets at the Railway Station Car Park.
Next stop Kirup for some syrup and Mark has arranged another lovely run through to Nannup which is totally different from my previous planned route!
Sunday Morning after brekkie at the Blackwood Cafe 0730 hrs. in Nannup Mark has organised another remarkable and memorable ride back to Perth for those who wish to join him!!
I apologise for the late update and I hope I have not confused too many of you with my ramblings but I think at the end of the day that you will appreciate what Macho Mark has to offer on what promises to be an entertaining, interesting ride with great camaraderie to enjoy over this weekend!!
Thank you Mark for stepping up and for taking the lead, it very much appreciated!
See you soon guys and girls

My pleasure Swampy. Should be a great run. Corner markers will play an important part in the group ride to keep us all together as a group. My suggestion is if you don't want to participate as being a Corner marker when directed, don't be the rider directly behind me please. See ye all on Saturday morning. Giddyup.

Looking forward to a good ride tomorrow and the weather is looking reasonable at this stage.
Don't forget to refuel at North Dandalup and come and Register your Next Of kin contact number and collect an Information sheet from me!!
I have been informed that the Bush Shack Brewery will be packed so they have Allocated Tables for us on the Lawn Area.
If rain is an issue when we arrive they can squeeze the majority of us inside and the rest will be be eating soggy fish and chips!!

Re: 5th Annual Great Nannup Getaway: October 22, 2022
Well Folks, Another Nannup Getaway as come and gone and left barely a ripple in it's wake!!
I wish to thank the SIX who bothered to meet at North Dandalup yesterday morning for the ride!!
You know who you were and thank you for accompanying us on a terrific ride most ably led by "Macho Mark Macnish!!
Only 6 out of the 28 riders who registered is a pretty poor show in anyone's books, And I have given up trying to work out why so many decided to pull out.
We picked up that exciting young couple Mike and Anna at The Bush Shack after an eventful trip to that location by 2 riders doing an "Isuzu" by Going Their Own Way in Harvey!! And that is even with proper corner marking in practice!!
We later found them in Donnybrook!!
It was on me to apologize profusely to the owner of The Bush Shack Brewery seeing as they had put on extra staff to help cater for the expected 28 people!
Nevertheless, a pleasant hour was spent there in the garden area where some tried out the food and alcoholic Ginger Beer before we departed for a refuel in Donnybrook.
Kirup Tavern was the next stop after traversing some beautiful back roads to get there!
Some Kyrup Syrup was stowed away in panniers before we left on another magic ride through sweeping bends uphill and down dale to arrive eventually in Nannup around 1500 hrs.
Thank you so much Macho Mark for leading us on a great trip south!!
A few refreshing drinks to wash away the dust and more from the club arrived at the hotel with some doing solo trips on bikes and others traveling down by automobile.
With these members, we adjourned to a very crowded and busy Nannup Brewing company establishment for our evening meal with our numbers attending approximately 17!! (No apologies required by the management)
A most pleasant evening was had by all apart from the hour-long wait for meals to be served with a couple of meals going missing but after some inquiries were made lobbed up about 2 hours after being ordered!!
But being the sort of people we are in the club, we made a fun time out of it and enjoyed ourselves in good company!!
After being on these premises approx. 15 minutes "Macho Mark" demonstrated to us, gobsmacked admiring onlookers, how he had lost none of the skills required to chat up a girl in one easy lesson!! But as they say "Whatever happens in Nannup remains in Nannup"!!
If anyone of us staying at the Nannup Hotel thought they would retire for a full and restful sleep last night, well we were in for a rude awakening!
Under New Management. the hotel held a karaoke night in the beer garden complete with amplifiers and a mob of tone-death people who decided to entertain us until midnight!
I very much doubt from the amount of sound emanating from the hotel that anyone in the whole town managed to get any sleep until the plug was pulled at midnight.
However I was up at 0500 and with rain expected to develop and no brekkie until 0730, I texted my apologies to Mark and the club for not waiting around and hit the road for home!!
Bad mistake to take the Nannup-Balingup road as I came across a large amount of Roo's either sitting in the middle of the road, bounding across the road, or hiding in the scrub on the side and leaping out in front of me
cruising at 60 kph was taking your life in your hands believe me!!
After a quick stop in Brunswick Junction, I was home by 10.00 hrs washing the midgies off my fairing!!
Thanks again to "Macho Mark", Great ride mate, and to all of you who managed to make it to Nannup and for the good company and laughs last night!!
This ride sees an end to my organizing any further rides to Nannup !! It has been fun, and entertaining and I have had a ball arranging these rides over the last four years but I now think that someone with some fresh ideas/destinations should step up and take over!!
Finally Thank you to everyone that has taken part in these getaways and made it such a popular and well-patronized outing, For the fun you bought with us and for the great club camaraderie, we enjoyed together!!

"I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains.
Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."
