A fair sized turn up at Catalano's today given that a long Club Ride was held yesterday and the weather looked iffy.
Eight riders headed out to Gingin via a circuitous route. EJ, Wolfnik, 5K Glen, His Royal Griceness, Geoffrey, Guy, Peter Bee and Bozo took the run through the back of the Bickley Valley and past Mundaring Weir. The route then included a short cut from the Lakes that was supposed to be down Ash Road and Lockwood Road. Ash Road turned out to be mostly unsealed and Lockwood Road was shown as a no through Road. We had to backtrack on Ilberry to get to Donconing before a run past Wooroloo and Wundowie to Bakers Hill. Thirty members of the 79ers Club had assembled their pre 1979 machines at Bakers Hill. Some beautiful relics of the past.
A spirited run along the Toodyay Clackline Road was supplemented with a link to Sandplain Road to take Drummond Road for a high view of Toodyay. Julimar Road and Chittering Road got us to the Tea Tree Road deviation at Bindoon before dropping into the Bindoon Bakehaus. Bakery products were relocated by the extreme G forces on the Crest Hill Road corners before a run along Moolabeenie Road to a packed Gingin. The rarity and value of the cars on display was evidenced by three Morgan's parked side by side being worth nearly a million dollars. One car, the Morgan Aeromax, identical to one owned by Chris Vermuelen was worth over $400,000 and was one of only two in Australia.
A run home along Military Road and Indian Ocean Drive and the ride ended up at the Ampol at Nowergup.
An interesting ride that went very smoothly (apart from Ash Road). Great to have Geoffrey, Wolfnik and EJ along as relative newcomers on the Sunday Ride. Thanks to Peter Bee for his calming influence and for running as Tail End Charlie.
