Sunday Ride down to the Federal Seat of Brand

Ross Currie's ride through the contorted lanes and backstreets of metro Perth, was a welcome change for some, almost a novelty. The ANZAC cottage trip was terrific (I'm sure details of that will follow). Afterwards, Peter Spencer and Rainer Seel were feeling boisterous, so we tossed a coin between Gidgiegannup and Rockingham; Rockingham won and after a ponderous start from yours truly, we got into a bit of a rhythm and teased the grey/green greasy Indian Ocean coastline all the way down to Pengos and had a cuppa overlooking the Fairy Penguins and Elephant Seals.
Amongst other topics we discussed were the frantic departures from last weeks run, in which the same trio blitzed homeward from Bakers Hill. None of us outran the rain but each had a unique great escape story, which was worthy of mention. Then we pondered the fate of the penguins, whose numbers have dwindled from thousands, to only hundreds, in the matter of only ten years (and commenting on Madeleine King's assertion that climate change is the reason!) After making a significant dent in the cafe's supply of apple/cinnamon muffins, we beat a retreat back to home, in time to light the first log fire of the year.
