Against the Grain

Just wanted to make members aware of an event that some may wish to support. This is a bit close to my own experience, and hopefully no members will ever go there. But given the activities of some members in the club, it is always a real possibility and we have had a few close calls in recent years.
In 1976 I broke my back in three places. I was lucky, I managed to get it all stuck back together again, but it has limited my activities over the years. It is one of the underlying reasons I really didn't get into heavy off-road riding on my R1150GA Adventure, and have swapped back to a more conventional road bike.
Jim Cairns, who some people may remember from some of his early affiliations with the BMW club, is part of a quad-bike adventure. Read all about it here :

May be a good reason for a few people to hit the road to keep them company, or a few people to provide support in other ways.
I actually met Jim last year. He happens to be a very clsoe friend of my partner, and is coincidentally also a very old colleague of a relative of mine also. Small world we live in.
