Dirty Dozen assault the Highways and Back Roads

Post by Bozo »

Great turn out at C1 and D1 Cafes today. Great to see Guy back from his going like a freight train to going as freight ride from Queensland. Rainer brought his BMW K bike that had been stored for 10 year and owned by Rainer for 30 years.

Always good to have new faces with Stevie G turning up for the first time and going on the ride. A lot of complaints about the absence of a BMW self cleaning system In particular, Astro Robs GS had samples from several goldfields embedded within its bodywork and rims.

The day had a slow start for Bozo with his RT failing to fire at the servo. Even with a jump start pack it took a while to get going. A quick swap to the GSA was in order but the Sunday ride start was delayed.

Medic Mike, Fiery Ross, Dave (not DFS), Rainer, R90S Mark, His Royal Griceness, Astro Rob, Steve + Jo, Stevie G, Nannup Nick, Peter Bee and Bozo headed up Orrong Road in perfect motorcycling weather to zig zag through the Bickley Valley.

A quick stop opposite the No 1 Pump Station included an anecdote from Stevie G that when he was encouraged to go and see Mundaring Weir overflow in 1996 as it could be the last time it ever overflows. The advice he was given was spot on, it has not overflowed since 1996.

Ride went well until the Lakes Roadhouse despite large numbers of cyclists being out. One of the group got an ABS Pro warning message on his new bike. After a quick check of the brakes, discs, fluid levels and an on off check decided that the wording of the warning meant that it was OK to ride on carefully. A few sheets of gravel on the road made for some interesting moments.

Swampy and Wes were already in Toodyay at the Coca Cola Cafe and we lost Fiery Ross to the Domestiques. The rest enjoyed a rapid fire discussion on topics ranging from parking through batteries to police search rights at the Toodyay Bakery.

The run home was the ascent past the Toodyay racecourse and Salt Valley Road with the ride finishing at Gidgegannup.

Thanks to Peter Bee for running as tail end Charlie and the group putting up with a few unscheduled stops.

I spent part of the afternoon trying to assess the RT's electrical problem. It still could be the battery (over 5 years old) or the slightly loose negative terminal connection.

Thanks Bozo for leading us again on a varied route. Interesting that we had a day with some minor problems, so rare. Will be interested to see what the issue is with your RT, with the battery that old suggest it is the issue. I’ll be down south for Thursday and Sunday so everybody enjoy Easter
