Not the Camp Cook-off Ride to the Kalgan

Another spur-of-the-moment phone call from JD.

The bonfire planned for the camp cook-off in September couldn't wait. Too risky from a weather perspective.

So the pile would need to be burned mid-week. After a few phone calls only two of us could make it.

Thursday provided perfect, beautiful weather for riding, and burning. Ordinarily I would avoid Albany Highway, but I was just cruising, enjoying the green lushness of our gorgeous South-West. It'll be brown soon enough.

Arriving only minutes before JD, near spot-on timing.

I'd only just parked the 1800 boxer, when I heard the diesel erupting. No mucking around our JD...

Jono and the local Volunteer Fire Service folks arrived and the bonfire roared. Safety first of course...

By evening, it was raging. Out came the BBQ and a selection of refreshments.

You could roast a sheep on a spit in that tunnel of heat...

By the morning on another perfect day, the heap was significantly reduced.

Following a big and healthy breakfast, chores were set for the day. The farmers would spend the day working at the library. We skivved around on ATVs and the tractor out in the beautiful sunshine.
Somehow I scored the 40 year old Kawasaki 185 with no tread on the steers. Not fabulous in the wet muddy conditions. Hellishingly good fun though...

The plan to depart on Saturday morning was delayed due to...

After the sun finally melted off the ice, we saddled up laden with expert local knowledge about an interesting journey back to Perth.

Chester Pass Road, Woogenellup Rd, Mt Barker, Martagallup Rd, Frankland River, Wingebellup Rd, Boyup Brook - Cranbrook Rd, Boyup Brook, Noggerup, Collie, Harvey, Perth.

This will probably be the last action shot of JD for a while now... Thanks to JD and Sandra for hosting us again. Awesome stay-over.

As you can see the country is totally soaked with water. The drive-way was a slippery stream.

Love the blue reflections in the puddles...

The Ranges screamed for a photo stop along the Woogenellup Rd. So we did... 8)

Thanks Jono for sharing the ride. And the interesting deviations on the way home.

I would have had very little cleaning (bike-wise) to do, if it had not been for that white slippery clay section of roadworks.

The idea of the Kalgan Camp Cook-off is not entirely off the table as yet. There's still plenty of carbon laying around the farm that needs releasing.

Watch this space...
