Storm in a Coffee Cup

Post by Bozo »

After an extended heatwave, the weather turned to winter today. This did not deter 16 riders and two pillions from heading out into the climatic unknown with a weird weather pattern from Cyclone Lincoln.

The destination was Bindoon based on Lincoln leaving all of its rain in places more than an hour's ride from Perth. Wightman, JonO, Rhonda, Steve + Jo, MD Mike, Miniscule Marinewear Mark, R90S Mark, Rod, Owen, Silas, Mick S, David P, Navigator Nick, Nev, Peter Bee + Mei and Bozo flew past the airport and ascended the scarp at Haddrill/Weir Road to make the link via Boulonnais Drive to the new section of Connemara Drive. All was going well until the heavens opened from a stationary cloud while we were crawling along behind a high wide load on Great Northern Highway. Pictures courtesy Wightman.

The group was reduced to 13 riders and two pillions by the time we got to Gingers. A need for haste to get in front of the high wide load by taking a deviation via Railway Parade split the group with the Marsh mob missing. A windy and occasionally wet run got us to a dry Bindoon where MD Mike arranged for reunification with the missing trio. Miniscule Marinewear Mark, goaded by Jeep breakdown stories, gave us one positive story about owning a Jeep. Pictures courtesy Mei.

The run home was via the Ridgetop Ramble, Blue Plains Road, Maddern South Road, Powderbark Road, Polinelli Road and Jennings Road. The ride ended at Bullsbrook. Despite the precipitation it was a very enjoyable run. Great to have Mei and Jo with us and the return of the Marsh mob. Thanks to Peter Bee for running as tail end Charlie and for Mei to handle all the waving duties. Mei also does a very comprehensive photo essay of the trip. A bit of a storm and some gusty strong winds, and poor ride leadership leading to a missing group but given the heatwave you could call it a storm in a coffee cup.

Great ride mate, again. I forgot to mention the wasp attack on me. The parties and carrot cake soothed somewhat.

Our first ride with a bit of precipitation but not enough to really get wet. Thanks Bozo for leading once again and the Bee book for TEC duties. No poor leadership displayed as you mentioned, just unfamiliarity with riding with a group for some.
