Rock'n'Roll : Baladjie Rock Hop

This weekend is the Baladjie Rock weekend. The details for the observation course and ride have been finalized, but yet I am not sure how many will be coming along. That means I cannot cater for lunch numbers, other than to estimate on the low side.
Anyway, weather forecast tells us that it is likely to be raining in Perth, but that doesn't mean it will be raining out East. Might get wet leaving and returning home, so if worried about getting wet, stay home and watch TV.
Reminder that departure is 7:30AM from Farrells, there is another coffee stop at 8:30AM so riding gear can be adjusted for the weather conditions on the day when we stop.
Instructions will be handed to each rider at Farrells on the day, bring a pen/pencil, good maps if you have them, digital camera if you have one, and all your required gear for the weekend.
Any questions, ring Geoff 0407 542440, and please let me know if you are coming.

Geoff,
I did pm you about a different departure/meeting point to save me going in to farrells. Was really looking forward to this ride, my first club run, but i have had an injury at work. i might be able to ride the bike but probably not up to a whole w/e plus camping. Thanks for you're organising efforts. I will get to a ride one day

Hi Geoff,
I'm thinking to joing this ride. Do I need to be a member of the club to go?

Rusky,
We don't exclude people who are not club members, although we like to think you may be interested in joining soon. Let us know who you are, what you ride.

I have '06 F650GS DAKAR since new and I occasionally ride with members of advrider forum. I did some trips around WA with my 14 year old daughter as pillion but mostly use my bike for daily commuting. I’m planning to go on advrider’s rally in NT this August and want to do some overnight rides to test my equipment before that. Pejie recommended me to join you for this weekend.
I’m actually not planning to become a member in near future as I don’t have much spare time for the club activities. I’m just looking for riding options for this weekend.

Hi Geoff and Pete
If I wanted to come along but cant getaway till Saturday afternoon, are there any options to catch up to the pack?
I dont know the route you are planning but would be interested if I could cut out a section and catch up that way.
Cheers

Only Geoff Edwards and Peter Unger know the route they have planned for us, but if you want to go directly there we will be camped on the western side of the rock. We should be there by late afternoon.

It's about 30k west of Bullfinch WA on Koorda - Bullfinch Rd. It's signposted. Track initially goes north "through" a paddock, then tends NW through bush until you reach the rock. Follow the track to the right (north), past the edge of the salt lake, and around to the west side.

Hi Geoff,
Its making me envious reading all about the Baladjie ride but unfortunately its a miss for me this time. I am still off work due to my "off " at Easter, my ribs have healed but my neck and shoulder are taking their time due to a whiplash type injury. The GS ended up being a writeoff so I will be looking for another bike in a couple of months time, I don't think BMW make a postie bike do they ?
Have a great weekend and ride safe all you guys, no accidents allowed.
Cheers
Jim

For those who came on the weekend to Baladjie, I think we had fun but the observation ride was a bit of a fizzer. It added a bit of extra interest though, and we did visit a few places people had not been to before.
For those few who stayed over Sunday night, we were priveleged to witness a fantastic moment at Baladjie Rock. During a peripheral thunder and lightning extravaganza, we got hit by a very brief hail/rain storm, then got to witness cascades of water down Baladjie Rock. A memorable event.
On Sunday, Dave Fox-Spencer and I were just lazing around the camp, and decided to take the two GS bikes (Daves and mine) on a little adventure, circum-navigating Baladjie Rock. The tracks go about 60% the way around, and much of the rest is virgin scrub and rocky outcrops. It was tough, hot and challenging, but after about an hour of bush-bashing we made it round to the tracks near the camp.
I owe a few ride reports, and will get this one done with the others in the next few days hopefully.
Baladjie Rock '09 is an open event for someone to put their hand up to organise. I have instigated the weekend and have done it for three years. A great destination, and a few established traditions in place.
Thanks to those who joined us over the weekend. It was great to get away.
