Happy Year All - first Thursday ride for the year for those that have recovered from their new year celebrations
Leaving Gloria Jeans Ascot 7:30am for BYFORD Dome for a 9:15am ish departure.
DDD yet to be decided.
Forecast for the coastal plains is for low 30’s whereas inland its bordering the 40’s.

The Gloria Jeans group shared a coffee with Guy before heading to Dome Byford where ultimately a dozen turned up including Ahab (Mike Stothers), Swampy and Mary, Navigator Nick, Mick S, James, Dave, David P, Ralph, Peter Bee and Brian/5. The mob headed to Brunswick Junction.

The plan to beat the heat by staying on the coastal plain proved to be best option. It was down the backroads down to Brunswick. From Byford we followed the railway line, joining the SthWestern Hwy from Fisher Rd Keysbrook, then on through Pinjarra. With a break in Coolup.
COOLup lived up to its name, with temperatures dropping below 30 degrees for the rest of the ride south. As we headed further west it continues dropping. At the furthest westerly point, it was down to 27.5.
A very smooth run with riders pausing on the corners only when necessary. The only hiccup was when the GPS indicated a turn in the opposite direction than actually required resulting in a few abrupt changes in direction. Mick as second in line handled these in his stride. I suspect the issue is that when you put an intersection way point on its opposite edge it shows a turn in that direction. Being an old Zumo screen is very hard to see in the bright sun and with the hi-vis reflecting on the screen.
The IGA at Brunswick has a good selection of food and is highly recommended. The return leg was via Mick’s favourited – looping up to Martin Road and back down to the SthWestern Hwy for a direct run home. One corner on Martin Road is still covered in gravel. The only other hazard was a goat that was on the road but had good road sense by exiting to the side. Several riders peeled off at Pinjarra and one at Byford. My option at Byford was to carry along SthWestern Hwy due to agreement between the GPS and a blond.
