A healthy gathering at Catalano's on Sunday despite the absence of a group mounting a bike display at Midland.

Dave S had a missing nut on his driving lights that was quickly sorted.

Ten riders headed to Miami Bakehouse at Falcon to try to avoid the storm cells inland of the scarp. Steve N, Eric, David P, AAA Antony, Raider, Goldie, Cameron, Tom, R90S Mark and Bozo struck cyclists as soon as we ascended the scarp. The wind was disconcerting on the coastal plain with strong gusts moving the bikes around and hazards such as toppled bins, traffic cones and branches blown onto the road.

Despite the weather it was not a bad run to Canning Dam.

The traffic was congested on Armadale Road and this continued all the way to Miami Bakehouse even through the deviations on Rowley Road, Kwinana Beach and Safety Bay. The growth of the Tern Bank accretion in Safety Bay was noted as we paused for a regather.

The new bridge over the Mandurah Estuary was well under way using the incremental launch system to duplicate the original concrete bridge opened in October 1986.

A stop at the Miami Bakehouse to talk about bridges and beaches was followed by a run through Dawesville and a visit to the Lake Preston Stromatolites.

A loop around the bottom of the Peel Inlet was followed by a run to Coolup and a diversion on Burnside Road to get to Pinjarra. The normal run home via Corio Road and Hopelands Road had a bit of excitement with 6 fire appliances fighting a paddock fire.

Raider stopped just north of Elliott Road, Keysbrook, where in a motorcycle accident, Bill Marsh was fatally injured in March 1994. Bill hit one of 3 straying cows. Another club member, Dave Oakley, hit a cow and he and his pillion son, Robert, aged 11, were injured.

The ride ended at Hopelands. Excellent work by Tail End Charlie R90S Mark despite the heavy traffic helped make a great day out.

Great write up Bozo and a good ride apart from the traffic. Educational lunch and learn session too. See you on the next one.
