Both roads continue to be closed at the time of this report.

The frontal rain band appears to have stalled around Kalgoorlie and does not appear to have progressed eastward. The good news - maybe the track out to Lake Rason did not get impacted by this front? The not-so-good news for those on two wheels... a wide swath south from Menzies and Kalgoorlie may be getting a soaking. It would be miserable in a tent out there right now... but, you could be hunkered down around a roaring fire - standing in mud.

I missed that… Anyone heading to Desert Raid from the Perth area and planning to head north from Southern Cross towards Menzies and Laverton, forget it.

The Mt Jackson Road, which I refer to as the Bullfinch - Diemals Road, is closed for an estimated 20 days. That means it will be out of action until at least Saturday the 9th August - unless we get another cold frontal system dump more rain which extends the closure.

Due to wet weather conditions and associated safety hazards, Mt Jackson Road will be closed to all traffic for an estimated duration of 20 Days. The closure is necessary to mitigate risks to motorists and road users. Posted 21/07/2025

A large cold frontal system crossed the coast today. Its leading edge has dumped more rain on the already-closed Hyden-Norseman Road and the Bullfinch-Diemals Road. More rain following tonight throughout the eastern goldfields...

The track out to Lake Rason looks like it will miss this frontal rain. However, the Tropicana Mine site is forecasting a 65% probability of rain (less than 2mm) tomorrow with a small chance of rain (less than 1mm) in the following days as this front slips past that site.

Yeah but,
This is not the road most riders would take...they would take the Bulfinch-Evanston Road which is east of the Mt Jackson Road. The Bulfinch-Evanston Road is open (atm).

That is right... It is the Bullfinch - Evanston Road. All being well I will now be on it next Wednesday.
