Hi Folks,

Myself and a small group are leaving tomorrow (Wednesday) to go Outback. We should be away for about 4 weeks and cover about 8,000km. This trip has a few moving parts to it, but initially we will be attending a Rally called Desert Raid at the remote 'Shooters Shack' in Outback Western Australia. From there we head East with our furthest point being Old Andado in the Northern Territory. We will return via the Gibb River Road in Western Australia's Kimberley Region. You can follow our progress in real time by clicking on the Link. Consider limiting the Date Range to the last seven days.
See you on the other side.

Join these 4 bewildered Raiders of the Lost Desert on their first leg of an 8000 klm journey across the remote Outback of Australia. Conditions encountered have varied from smooth, gravel roads to some tough  sandy tracks with the obligatory mishaps; always with the  rugged Australian landscape to keep us on our toes. The trip kicked off at the Shooter’s Shack for the 2025 Desert Raid and then onward to historic Old Andado Station, Binns Track and Alice Springs. From Alice we will continue onto the Tanami, Gibb and any dirt road we can in find in-between.

The adventure continues with these four dust covered adventurers seeking warmer weather and rougher tracks.

After a pleasant 2 day break in Alice springs, the four continued north west onto the Tanami Track, where we were reacquainted with the corrugations.

After a brief detour to the abandoned Rabbit Flat Roadhouse, we then turned north up to the Larjamanu Road, which hadn’t seen a grader since meat was cheap. After a good nights rest, with some wild horses to entertain us, we continued along the Buntine Highway and then the very bony Duncan Road. We had a good night’s camp on the Duncan Road overlooking the Negri River, where one of the members of the team earned the nickname “ Duncan Nuts”.

We are now resting in Kununurra and planning the next leg.

Thanks JP.

In our last episode, our determined yet dubiously prepared quartet left Kununurra and ventured onto the Gibb River Road. Whilst the bush fires had closed Emma Gorge and El Questro, we still found refuge at Ellenbrae Station where we enjoyed the hospitality and the delicious scones. From Ellenbrae we then descended into the ‘The Tyre Tomb of Despair’. Two rear blow-outs forced an additional rest day at Silent Grove attempting to repair tubes with Steve’s patch kit which we believe he was given as a 14th birthday present for his Malvern Star. After five attempts we stole a tube from Kots and completed the Gibb and limped into Broome. A visit to Broome Motorcycle Shop where we purchased new tubes and ensured that there are now no 17 inch tubes available in Northern Australia. We will rest and relax here for two nights before dragging our bikes, bruised knuckles and egos South.

Latest Short Vid from the most recent trip. An Extended Series of this trip to be released soon.

With new inner tubes and new inner fortitude, our valiant voyagers left Broome heading south towards Sandfire Roadhouse with only a straight sealed highway and 60kmh headwind to keep them company. We adjusted to the monotony by listening to music on our helmet-mounted headphones. Unfortunately, Steve’s had broken so he could only listen to the voices in his head.
After 600 km of grind we turned off the highway onto the Boreline Road to be met by breathtaking vistas. We camped in the most spectacular campsite, a natural Amphitheater surrounded by stark red hills illuminated by the afternoon sun that even a National Geographic documentary could not compete with.
The next day, a refuel at Marble Bar took a few more hours than expected as Tom had broken his throttle cable. Some ingenuity from the team and a lot of swearing from Tom got us all on the road in no time.
Once in the move, we traversed Ashburton Downs Road and then encountered the twisting, rocky Dooley Downs Road, which we all agreed is one of the best adventure motorcycle roads we have ridden.
The next day, we left behind the red ochre of the desert and camped amongst a carpet of wild flowers adjacent to the Coalseam Conservation area. Some of the team were so taken by the flora that they burst into songs from the “Sound of Music”.
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, and the next day the dirty, bedraggled foursome wound their way back to Perth to repair their bikes, wash their clothes, and plan their next adventure.

This Mob continues its journey with the same determination and passion of a starving dog with a bone. Their desire to overcome setbacks is unwavering as they claw their way closer and closer to the Shooters Shack. Although experiencing setback after setback, they dismiss the difficult and diminishing track conditions as just another day at the Office. Will nothing stop them?

The struggle continues as this Mob tackles the relentless. never-ending sandy sections of the Australian Outback as they claw their way closer and closer to the Shooter's Shack in an endeavour to link up with all the other brave souls that have taken on the challenge of Desert Raid 2025. Fatigue eventually beats them, and they are forced to throw in the towel early before the last final sprint to their destination the following day. There, they meet other Adventurers with not only broken bones, but broken spirits as well.

Definition of setback. an unfortunate happening that hinders or impedes;

After a successful Desert Raid, our Team decides to take an easier alternative than the shortest possible route to Laverton....or so we thought. The going still proved difficult, with sand traps and navigation presenting challenges. After an eternity, we make it to the safe haven of Town and finally lower our guard, knowing that conditions should improve from this point on. We lose three but gain one; David joins the Group on his R1200GSA. We experience a sudden setback that no one anticipated, which could change the course of our journey.
