Just had a phone message from Judy Dave's wife who had to cancel her dental appointment with me because she has to go to the airport to pick up Dave who has fallen off his bike. Apparently he was riding on sand near Alice springs and lost it, he pranged quite bad and smashed his helmet , has sore arms and possably a broken rib. Judy is not sure about the status of his bike but apparently its a bit bent.

Hope you are ok McFarkle.
Did you fall off, or did you get spat off. Probably the later if you are injured.

Having a great ride, all going well for the last 9 days. We rode in mud, dried rutty roads, then 40C heat................then some deep sand crept up on me on the GCH.................the ride through there had been going superbly.Thought I had sorted it out, as I had been dooing all morning, but ran out of talent! Bike went down to the right then looks to have pitched left. I took out the LHS mirror as I exited.
Got into Docker River, saw the nurse, who contacted the doctor in Alice Springs, and it was decided that I should abandone the bike for an aircraft, enter the RFDS. I decided that it was time to get back the ambulance membership I had paid for the last 35 years.
In short, right hand is very swollen and sore but not broken, possible cracked rib LHS, bump in the side of my face, a bit of memory loss( probably the nurses main worry) but the helmet did a fantastic job. Some neck pain but cheked out OK. The RFDS and the medicos in Alice were absolutely first class. The bike was ridden to Docker river, no screen, bent bars,LHS mirror broken off, possible bent fork, multiple abrasions. RHS pannier dented from boot, glad I chose to wear my Alpine Stars. The pannier and tank bag exited the bike, with possesions scattered over a reasonable area. Bike to be collected by Shannons shortly(they have already organised it. Thanks the nurse who locked it up at her place). The guy from Shannons wanted to know where the nearest repairer woud be and the street name.............................
My riding companions did a great job, making good decisions and acting swiftly, thanks guys.
Stayed in Alice hospital last night and on a plane to Perth this morning. Jude was very happy to see me walk off the plane.
Repair, replace...............lets wait and see.
Things learnt 1. Ride with good people and have a plan
2.Take the medicos advice.
3. The GSA is a very capable bike to cover big miles over a variety of country, we are its real limitation.
4. The worst day on the bike is still better than the best day at work.
See you at breakfast on Sunday.

G'Day Dave
Main thing is you are okay.
That sand can certainly add to the adventure when you are riding 'the lounge' as Bowe likes to call them.

Good to hear that you are OK-ish. Look forward to seeing you back on a bike.

At least you are living life....
