Cave Hill Ride - 21/22 April 2012

Post by _Wilks »

Cave Hill is south of Coolgardie and west of Widgiemooltha in the goldfields.

The route I have in mind is Hyden-Norseman Rd > Victoria Rocks Rd > turn east to Cave Hill > north to Coolgardie via Burra Rocks > GEH > Perth. Should be nice and easy on the big GS's. It's a few kms for an overnighter but this trip is for riding, not sight-seeing. I did this ride on last year and we made it just short of Cave Hill on the first day at a gentle DR pace!

If rain is forecast or it has rained the day or two prior to departure, be prepared to cancel. Goldfields roads and water aren't a good combo. DAMHIK.

My preference for dates are either:
Pref 1 - Tue 24 April and Wed 25 April (Anzac Day)
Pref 2 - Sat 21 April and Sun 22 April

So...
Who's interested? If yes, say which (if any) of the 2 dates you CAN'T do.
Looking for plenty of interest for this one, maybe 6+ bikes, so don't be shy. (you'll also get a chance to suss out others camp kits as a guide for your own)

If Bully (or someone else) is able drive support, we might even have the luxury of a few coldies around the camp fire!

Cheers
Shane

I'm certainly interested...my young son has been training for his surf lifesaving bronze cert every weekend so i have not been able to get out much on the weekends...thats why ive been missing breakfasts on Sundays. He qualifies late Feb so by April i'll be chaffing at the bit. Should be the last trip for the current tyres as well so i am keen to get as much mileage out of them as i can. My prefeference would be for 21/22 April....having a job sucks!!!!

If small GS's are allowed, then I'm in.
Not ANZAC day.

Good stuff. Looks like we've got a ride organised!

Sat 21 April & Sun 22 April.

6 so far from here, plus a mate of mine.

Any thoughts or variations on the route I proposed?

All sized bikes welcome reklaw :-)

I'm sure I can make it.
If I can remember how to ride my bike.
Maybe I will need to do one of those training day rides to bring my skills up.
Most problems can be solved with a suitable application of throttle!

JIGAP has some training wheels that you may be able to borrow. I think I saw a recent picture of him upright....so he must be weaned off them.

Hanging out for a ride as well...but down to Port Bouvard for the weekend. I have been on John Wightman's "flying brickette" for tha last two weeks and enjoyed it for the commute.

Any one for a ride in Dwellingup area on Sunday...I will have the GS8 back by then.

Cheers

I was at Cave Hill a few years ago, great spot for a swim in the dam up on the rock, beautiful clear water, apparently they used the water for the old wood line trains, for those inclined we also caught a nice feed of yabbies, I suppose they are still there.

Adding one more rider to the list... Chris G. (hopefully he'll dust off his GS instead of bringing the chook chaser  )

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I gotta ask... have you done much off road riding 2-up (& carrying all your camping gear)?
