Just FYI, the following is from the GS911 guys and relates to many of the 1100CC bikes which have 3-pin connectors.
There are many features of these diagnostic tools which not many of us use, in fact there are some good reasons to get a software upgrade following discussions I had with David at Better Motorcycle Repairs (he has one, with the workshop firmware). hi All,
Lloyds mail got me thinking that it would be good to get a response from the forum...
I have been through various versions of the 3pin adapter, that will allow GS-911 to connect to the older models that have the 3 pin diagnostic connector... see : http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/3pin
The 3pin adapter looks as follows:
http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-91 ... sampel.jpg
it has a toggle switch that you use to switch the mode of the ECU between TPS alignment and Reading/Clearing of Fault codes. The LED will be used to show the status of this mode.. The software will also be able to read this mode, to inform the user if the switch is in the incorrect setting for what ever function the user wishes to perform...
The device will be able to:
* Read/Clear fault codes on the MA2.1 and MA2.2 models (see
http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-91 ... -supported
)
* Set the TPS calibration for the MA2.1 and MA2.2 controllers
* Read ECU info on ABS-II
* Read/Clear Fault codes on ABS-II
The adapter needs to be powered by the battery voltage of the motorcycle. As you can see from the sample picture, there is a short pigtail cable that is the power cable for the device. The power cable could be in the form of various types:
1. It could be as shown, along with an extension cable, that would
have the small accessory plug type sockets on either end, to one
end goes in to the adapter's power cable and the other into the
accessory socket of the motorcycle.
2. a 2nd option could be as above, but with the extension cable
having only one small accessory type plug on one end (to connect
to the 3pin adapter) and croc clips on the other end to connect to
the battery directly
3. a 3rd option would be that the power cable on the 3pin adapter is
lengthened, with a small accessory plug-type connector on the one
end, that will fit into the motorcycles accessory outlet port (and
maybe a sort additional extension that will have croc clips to
directly connect to the battery...
The advantage of having a short pigtail-only is that the chance of it being damaged and needing to be replaced is very small, and if the longer extension cable gets damaged the user can either make up a new extension himself, or purchase a new replacement extension...
replacing/fixing a cable that goes into the 3pin adapter will be much harder to do...
pls let me have your opinions on which you would prefer, and why...
I know it's a little off-topic, but it's very relevant to GS-911 and in an effort to improve the product...
best,
Stephan
