New Battery

Post by Davey_sprockeT »

Hi all,
due to my recent errr, "electrical issue" I decided to cough up for a new battery.
YUASA Part No. is YTX14-BS

After hearing what BMW wanted (arm & a leg) Battery World (just an arm), I trolled the ol' interweb, and came up with MOTOBATT from Extreeme Motorbike Dundas Rd, Forrestfield.
The part No. for the GS equivalant is MBTX12U. "Absorbed Glass Mat Technology"

Bright yellow beast with terminals both sides for multi applications.

Comes fully charged and ready to drop in.

Label says Jacksonville Florida, but I could smell the soy sauce straight out of the box

They stock mainly off road batteries for chook chasers/quads & trikes. Don't take the kids though, as they have lots of "toys" on show and youll get your right arm torn from the shoulder.

No idea of cold cranking etc, but is does have a warranty  (on a battery?  )

Anyway $119.00 gest me running again.

Maybe do a long term report when I replace it

See them here http://www.xtrememotorbikes.com.au/

Many thanks to JonO for his very generous attempts to assist me with this "technicality" :| :|

Guess what ??
Got back in tonight at 21:00 hrs (that's 9:00 pm for those that can't count more than 12 ) and me F@#*k'in NEW battery's flat......

Best we get the 911, ten11 and eleven11 on the bugger tomorrow.....
could be the GPS, but I'm sure it wouldn't pull enough to flatten a new battery...

anyway, looking forward to hearing your theories tomorrow over a snag and a coldie..

So, tonight I pulled out some of my previous GPS installation, and fitted an isolator switch inline from the battery feed to the newly installed underseat fuse box. 8)

I ran some tests before the rip-out and these were the results:
no GPS in cradle = 44.7 mA
GPS in cradle (but switched off) = 45.1mA
GPS then switched on =269.6mA
so the 45.1mA appears to be enough to drain the new battery from Sunday 'till Friday evening. :?: :?: :!: :?:

So stay tuned....

PS: Bozo and Swampie, you are both banned from this thread...............

if the old battery is not cactus, i may be persuaded to open my wallet and give you some coin for it.

I'm thinking I'll mount it in the chair to run the coffee machine and the winch for lifting GS 's up from their slumber

Davey, if it's the same yellow battery I'm thinking of, the terminal posts are not man enough for the cranking duty of those big motors. It wouldn't help to leave it on trickle charge for a whole day, before giving it the heavo-ho, though. John

Hey John,
I believe my "battery issues" may be due to the GPS being left in it's cradle and so some sort of current drain is occurring. I have recently installed an inline isolator switch to cut the power to the new underseat fusebox so I know that there is no chance of any current drain, however I have not tested the circuit since the switch was installed.

I was initially concerned about the "quality" of the battery because at $114, it might be a bit El Cheapo, but much to my supprise when speaking to Vince at the recent tuning day, He uses 'em and reckons they're OK :P :P .

Anyway I'm carefully monitoring it to see what happens, and Bully is already nudging me for the previous battery

Stay tuned....
