Helmet cams, Handlebar cams

I know a few out there have a helmet cam or a video camera mounted on the bike.

1. What brand and model are you using
2. Would you recommend the brand and model you are using
3. Any preferences for helmet mount v's mounting on the bike (say handlebars)
4. Did you purchase locally in Perth
5. Can you recommend a store in Perth to purchase from
6. Given I know very little about video cameras, I want to see in the flesh exactly what I am purchasing, rather than buying online

I have a "GoPro' video camera, with most of the extras. It can do HD video or stills. I am happy with the camera which has a waterproof housing and can be used in many various ways.
I saw it 'in the flesh' prior to purchase here in Perth, however the price quoted by the Perth supplier was nearly double of that available on-line. I purchased the camera via a reputable group on e-bay for half the price quoted by the local supplier.
The delivery from the USA took about 10 days.
The Contour video camera is also very good, and provides a GPS location, altitude and speed if these features are needed.

Thanks for the replys. After looking at a few options I bought a Drift HD 1080P today.

Great little camera - the small screen that some others do not have enables changes to made to settings without connecting to the computer - good clean imagery even at low resolution – nice wide angle, 135 deg from memory - only shortfall I have is that the battery cannot be charged and the camera recording simultaneously. Camera has to be turned off to charge battery.

Hi Noel,
due to the short battery time (2hrs ?), I run mine back to a power supply (USB adapted) in the tank bag, so although it's another cable run to worry about, it's powered all day and so is always "at the ready", from the handle bar mounted remote control.

I've tried various "mounting positions" :.......... front beak, engine crash bar and helmet, connected via USB cable for all day riding. Be mindful though that whilst fitted with the backplate with the cable connection access, the "waterproofness" becomes dubious. Much better with the solid backplate.
Helmet mount proves to be more "vibration proof" and rotatable for looking around, as opposed to fixed looking to the front, but the cable can be a nuisance sometimes..

Dave if your camera is hard wired so it can be always on, how come it's never on when you come off!

Gday Davey - charging is not the issue - i was hoping to be able to have the camera recording and charging similtaneouly but it does not have that capability. Cheers
