Small issue

Post by gjo247 »

Hi guys,
I've already posted this on the members forum, but thought it might be just as well posted here too.
This is what happens when you do something silly, out of the ordinary, contrary to accepted practice. This afternoon, I, against my better judgement, cleaned the GS. Yes, sad but true.
Got the job done and flashed her up, just to make sure it would and a small warning light, just below the clock reset button has come on. It's a pretty red one. And it's still on, with the key removed at least 30 minutes ago. I checked out the owners manual which says that it is for the anti-theft device and for the dash internal lights, but that doesn't help me much.
Do any of the club gurus know anything about this indicator and can you tell me how to make it go away ?

Check your owners manual Gav, Page 42 this might be it!

"with anti-theft alarm (DWA)OE Anti-theft alarm warnings appear as plain-text warnings 2 in combination with the 'General' warning light 1 showing after the Pre-Ride Check and relate to the capacity
of the internal battery that supplies power to the anti-theft
alarm. The possible warnings are
DWALO ! appears on the display - Anti-theft alarm battery weak
Lights up yellow DWA ! appears on the display - Anti-theft alarm battery flat"

So basically a battery in your dash that keeps the memory alive when the main battery is disconnected may be flat or very low, perhaps it was shorted out by all that water
Of course un surprisingly the manual then says
"Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorized BMW Motorrad dealer."

Thanks Jono, I'll have another look tomorrow after work, but I'm pretty sure there are no text messages at all. And the light is still on now. I rang Thorsten at AC and he suggested that I drop around there with it and he'll hook it up to the computer for more info.
Too wet and dirty out there tonight to do anything.
Cheers,

After talking to Thorsten at AC, who admitted to never having seen the light before, I had a look on adv and on youtube, in the hope that someone else had come across this isssue. There were a very small group in the US who had, but they had got no further than I did and the dealer/distributor was no use either. The few who had the issue said it went away on it's own after about 3 months or so.
I removed the panel yesterday arvo and tried to open it up but it resisted valiantly. I decided to have another go this evening and it yielded to my persuasion. :P Once opened, there is not much to see and certainly no parts you could service yourself, so I sprayed all around inside with Lectra Clean, put it back together and back on the bike. And the light is no longer bugging me. :P
It would be nice if BM Oz were to get back to me about what the cause was, but I won't hold my breath.
Gav.
