FD & Gearbox Oil

Post by _Wilks »

For those who do their own servicing of R1200's...

The BMW recommended oil for final drive and gearbox is Castrol SAF-XO 75w-90. Castrol have renamed this product and it is now known as Castrol Syntrax Long Life 75w-90. (note - it must have 'long life' on the label). Autoclassic don't keep it in their retail stock and it has to be ordered in specially at approx $47 for a 1 litre bottle! I'd hate to think what we pay per litre via the workshop.

I've given it a fair crack but cannot locate anyone in WA who retails the 1 litre bottles of this liquid gold. However, I have found a distributor who will retail it but only by the carton (6 bottles - works out at a smidge under $30 per 1 litre bottle). I don't need 6 litres so does anyone want to buy some with/through me IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS? Reply in this thread please.

Bear in mind the gearbox takes 900ml and the FD 180ml. Maybe we can break up a 1 litre bottle so each of us is buying 1200ml at $35. I'd take 2x 1200ml which leaves 3 lots left.

So who's in?

or

Does anyone know where I can buy this stuff off the shelf and not pay $40+ per litre?

Late last year I dropped into munich in Myaree, talking to the helpful people there I ended up buying a bottle of "the oil " from them , for my 50,000 service..Dunno how much it was too long ago. Maybe you could ask.
cheers
