SW Motech racks

Post by geoffcnc »

I've just fitted SW-Motech racks to my R1150GS Adventure to replace the infamous Bunnings racks (self-made, did the job!!). To my pleasant surprise, these racks fit over the standard plastic BMW pannier carrier system and when removed the original plastic pannier system can still be used. A bit of a bonus really since on the odd occasion I use these panniers just for 2-up outings.

The SW-motech racks can fit any other OEM pannier system, as well as be used for strapping bags on, or using Andi-strapz soft luggage. I think I am getting closer to being happy with luggage options on the bike.

I also have some Wolfmann tank panniers, which I have also used as mini-saddle bags in front of other pannier luggage when riding solo. These are great little panniers too, taking some of the small lighter stuff out of the luggage and as an added bonus, adding a bit of a soft fairing around the knees as well. Negative is that they take a bit of economy away, but WTF, cannot have everything.

Challenge is with 2-up, packing essentials yet keeping the weight distributed. I think I'm getting there, hope to test it out on the Hyden-Norseman Road next Thursday.
