I am looking for a good off road rear tyre for a F 800 gs, has anybody got any good suggestions.
It currently has a Continental on it but I dont get much mileage out of them. I am mainly off road in gravel.

Ric, I don't have an 800 GS , but despite what everyone told me, in terms of rear knobby tyre wear (1200GS) Continental, Kenda, Mitas were all much of a muchness (around 7/8000k's loaded up and depending on the type of road, I ride pretty conservatively), price varied a bit. The knobby Continental on the front will get close to 15,000k's.

Obviously depends how much off road you do. You mention that you are mainly off road on gravel. I have settled on Heidenau K60 for the back as an allrounder. I got 22k + on my first rear. I have Ben very happy with the all round grip - mostly gravel and very little (read avoid) sand and mud. I have heard you don't get the K60 in Aus anymore only the Scout.concur with Bowe on what I have heard on the others mentioned. If I remember correctly Mike Atkins (gs8 yellow) has used Mitas and was happy with them.

Front....I'll stick with TKC twinduro...great directional grip...noisy on the bitumen, but will tolerate that for the surefootedness on gravel.

Thanks Koos & Bowe for your response, I basically only use the F800GS to go out either Brookton Hwy or Albany Hwy and then go off down the gravel tracks to see where I end up. So I might do 30 to 40 klms on bitumen then 100 or so on gravel.
The Continental Twinduro rear has done 1260 klm and is buggered. I dont think it will see 2000 klms.
Is there any riders that go out for a few hours mainly off road that dont mind someone tagging along.

There are usually some riders going out every Sunday after brekky to them far hills. Chris x 2, Dean and myself headed off last Sunday from Kalamunda, Mt Dale, round the reservoir to Mundaring. Great ride, about 150 km all up. I was back home at 12:30 pm.

Some are are gone this weekend, but next Sunday should a goer again.

PS: You'll be fine with a Heidenau on the back for many k's.......unless you want to climb hills.

I will have to keep in touch as I would like to go on a ride with others. And I will look into the Heidenau, Does Auto Classic stock them or Tyres for Bike, or elsewhere.??? When you say around the reservoir, is that by bitumen or dirt. I dont mind bitumen but much prefer being in the bush.

I have bought Heidi's from Tyres for Bikes VIc Park in the past, not sure I they still stock them though.
The rides Koos refers to are dirt wherever possible including round the reservoir. Bitumin only as last resort.

Come along any Sunday to Catalano's Vic Park from 7:30 to 8:30 join us for a coffee and ask if there's a ride going!
