Hello to All,
It appears that I may have picked up some contaminated fuel somewhere as my 2009 GS1200 started to refuse to idle whenever I had to come to a halt whilst on a ride with the lads today?? (I am assuming this is the problem?)

I had to keep the engine revved up to prevent it cutting out.

I refueled in Middle Swan this arvo on the way home and this appeared to help a little but not at every stop.

How Easy/Difficult is it to drain the tank and how do I go about doing this as I haven't had to attempt this before??

All sensible suggestions welcome, But I'm also good for a laugh/Sendup

Were you riding on dirt as I know your bike doesn't like dirt

Because your bike is afraid of dirt.

Take a fuel bladder and go for a good ride. That's more than 100km and use up the fuel.

Hey Swampy, I thought I heard you revving far too much on the way home, maybe you forgot to close your fuel filler cap and the storm got in...

It bucketed down about 10 seconds after I had parked the bike at home, as usual

If you are lucky and it's water only, then a little metho will absorb it.

Don't know about the 2009 GS, but my 2008 GSA had no fuel filter fitted standard. Can you believe that?????

Vince fitted one to mine during a 70k service. It's been there for 10,000 or so.

Mike may have a thought about running it until it runs out, but if it is more than just water, maybe you don't want that being scrapped through the fuel injectors.

I used to run our old honda 90 postie on half petrol / half metho, it always got rid of the water. Wouldn't idle at less than about 3000 rpm, would spin up really nicely, but was never good for the rings. And while I'm there, don't mess around with methyl benzene, that really has a shattering impact on rings

AND THE RESULTS WERE.............EXCELLENT

Half a cup of metho, A run to Bunbury and return this morning appears to have cleared the fuel problem.

Bike, (Touch Wood ) is running as sweet as ever

A big Thank You to both Mike and Nev for your advice

Now for a bit of cleaning on it
