Hi guys, iv just started thinking about getting a bike together for some big trips on the dirt over next couple of years and I think one of these still has lot going for it. I really want solid reliability and simplicity for long / remote trips. Want to stay as light weight as possible so looking at a few singles as well buy i have my 300exc for single track action. Ive found a couple of gs100pd and a couple of classics as well. All have 75 to 95km on them but look to be in good serviceable condition. If i go ahead and get the best example i can find what can i expect to spend setting it up to handle dirt touring. I know engine work depends on the bike but what sort of kms are they generally good for. (I will be going over the thing with fine tooth comb but just trying to put rough budget together) Also hoping to find out any must do jobs such as good suspension mods, any drivetrain mods needed etc.

Check with the owners if the driveshaft has been serviced and/ or if the universals have been changed/ modified to allow you to screw in a grease nipple to add grease. With the gearboxes the front bearing tends to wear as it doesn't get enough lube. Another weak point was the Valeo starter motor. In my opinion they are a great bike.
There are plenty of people around who can give advice if you need it.
