Low seat option for RT

Post by Yamseng »

Jokes aside, is there anyone in Perth that can make up a lower seat or modify my existing seat. It would make a huge diff to be able to put my feet flat on the ground. Thanks in advance, Ed

Try ACM seats in Melbourne, talk to Peter, just had my XC seat done, seems like a good job.

Ed there are 2 ways to go.
1) have your existing seat modified and hope it turns out better. There are several auto upholstery shops in Perth that will do this for you. You will be unable to ride for the days/weeks while work is done

2) buy an aftermarket low seat and then if it works for you sell your standard seat to offset the cost.
The better known ones are Corbin, Sargent, Russell Day Long etc sometimes these come up for sale on eBay or the various BMW club classifieds.

Heaps for sale on eBay circa 250 to 570 even some with heating

My advice would be to try out a low seat first either from Auto Classic or perhaps a club member, then once you are sure it's what you want and comfortable look for one on eBay or the various classifieds. You often hear of people buying seats untried and then finding they don like them.

Cheers

Ed, I have a Low Seat for a "GS" you can try out if you like. Let me know if you are going to be at Cat's on Sunday morning and I will bring it down for you.

Don't know if it will suit your RT though???????????????????????

It may come as a surprise to some, but BMW make, and have made motorcycles other than the GS.

A kind gesture old mate, but unlikely to fit very well.

FWIW my R80 (non GS) has had the seat lowered but it looks like an amateur job, go to a Pro.

Hello Ed

I have a low cut seat on my RT (BMW off the shelf accessory), you are welcome to try it, ask Koos for my number or catch up at breakfast or club meeting.

Thank you all for your advice. Cookie, I like to take up your offer but not sure how it will work as mine is a single seat. First thing I do when I get back to Perth is see if the seat is set on the lowest setting. Again, many thanks everyone. Ed

Hello Ed

The typical RT seat is 2 pieces, so should not be an issue.

Just got three quotes - one from Auto Classics and two from Eastern States. Cheapest is from ProCycles in Hornsby, NSW at $417. This is still considerably more expensive that online from US for USD200 even with freight added on. Will place an online order Sat unless anyone on this forum suggest otherwise. Regards, Ed
