Any comments or suggestions on what works and what does not.
What combination is best, Blue tooth, UHF or combination.
Good places to buy from?
Travelling OS on rental bikes and looking to see if it is worth having a system.

Re: Bike to Bike intercom systems
For that scenario I would recommend either the Scala or Senna Bluetooth intercoms. Both can be purchased in pre paired sets. Light, relatively cheap and easy to carry and fit. Anything with UHF involves more equip and possibly requires license or at least knowledge of local bands that can and can't be used. The Sena has a UHF adaptor.

Re: Bike to Bike intercom systems
Very pleased with the Sena SMH10R I bought a year or two ago. Small, simple to use and even now, the battery still lasts over eight hours playing music from the phone.
The young bloke has the SMH10 unit which is a little larger, the audio quality is just the same.
The audio quality is superb, most people I speak to on the phone don't believe I'm on the bike.
I believe Sena have some new models available.
Bear in mind this isn't hi-fi, it's bike to bike, rider to pillion and phone calls - on a bike, in a helmet, with associated wind noise etc.
By the way, I use ear plugs all the time.
I'd never go back to UHF.

Some people are like Slinkys, you can't help smiling when you push them downstairs.
Re: Bike to Bike intercom systems
I have both Sena and Scala. Purchased the Scala for a trip to Melbourne bike to bike about 3years back and used regularly since then - found the dust between bikes affected performance a bit and it ran out of battery power towards the end of the day just as we were searching for a bed for the night. Always left it on my helmet and used it when commuting for the phone. That unit has developed a volume problem hence the Fathers Day present of the Sena. - I haven't tested these other than the phone connection - clear as a bell. I was very happy with the old Scala though and I'm sure the newer models are improved.

Re: Bike to Bike intercom systems
well I purchased the Sena 20S and used it in Vietnam for 6 days in the mountains.
Range is supposedly 2 Km, under good conditions may be you can get this but in the mountains it comes and goes as they are only line of sight.
They do however let you know when you are in and out of range.
I used it for 2 days with out charging and still had good battery life at the end of 2 days.
Music fades in and out of the intercom as people speak.
Did not get any calls on the phone so no comment.
Clear reception and good clear communication.
Worth while investment for the trip as we used it for keeping track of bikes and what was happening, very useful when one bike had an incident on the oily road.
Good in Hanoi traffic to know where bikes were in the traffic, this is another whole story in it self, THE HORN IS MY FRIEND!!!!!
