Repairing ultra heavy duty tubes

Normally repairing ultra heavy duty (UHD) tubes is difficult due to the thickness of the tube rubber and the difference in the patch material thickness.
The UHD tubes have less give in the material than a conventional/standard type tube.
If you have a small hole and use a small patch the patch will fail quite quickly after the repair.
The patch repair gets worked off the tube very quickly when you start moving again.
The way around this is to use a very large patch for the repair, this seams to spread the load of the tube flexing across a bigger area and the repair is less likely to fail.
I normally now carry a truck tyre repair kit range of patches rather than the motorcycle size patches.
