R100 continues

The rear seal & guide ring are in, when it came to putting on the flywheel the crank has moved a little, as Goldie mentioned to me yesterday I should have marked the flywheel with the crank. I pulled the flywheel off at BDC when the OT mark was in the window, now when putting the flywheel in that position the five crank bolt holes don't align...its one hole out either way...Q With the pistons at BDC (heads are off) with the OT mark in the window, would the OT mark be coming up to the window (before true BDC) or after.

Hallo Guy
Can you not move the pistons to TDC and then move the flywheel to OT in the window? When you adjust your tappets you move the flywheel to OT and at that point, the pistons are at their furthest out.

Does sound as simple as that John..I can move the pistons to TDC, the reason that they are BDC is that I started removing the gearbox with the OT mark in the window not realising that it was at BDC (that is ok provided I marked the flywheel to the crank). I should be correct in saying that the OT mark will be in the window every revolution..TDC then BDC. This evening I will I will put the pistons to TDC then hopefuly I will not have a choice of two holes within the rear guide ring to pick from when bolting on the flywheel (with OT in window). Am in no rush, so want to make sure that it is put on correctly before it all goes back together. (All a learning experience)

The way I understand it, the S mark should line up just before you get to TDC. You have to spin the crank CLOCKWISE standing in front of the timing chest, looking at the bike

All good...Thanks John, I am incorrect with the above, the timing marks do not appear between every TDC & BDC, they appear every complete cycle TDC-TDC, I just put the pistons at TDC put the flywheel back, lined up the OT in the centre, was very happy when the flywheel & seal guide ring holes were perfectly matched, seemed to be a rather straight forward fix. Havnt torqued the bolts, in case anyone tells there's something else that's been overlooked.

Am aware that the above doesn't match up with what I mentioned within the first query re; the flywheel OT being in the window at BDC...was about two months ago that I removed it ?

Is it possible that the flywheel has been removed in the past and incorrectly installed? Some people measure the tappet clearances by sticking a wooden stick down the plug holes to feel for TDC. With electronic ignition, the S mark is not so important anymore.

The OT in the centre of the window is TDC, to get it exact I just use a screwdriver down the plug hole when adjusting the tappets.
