Hi
I went to start the bike yesterday and the battery was flat.

I suspect the mobile phone charger I left plugged in was the cause.

I am having difficulty in getting the bike running after several attempts to jump the bike from my car.

The bike was running when jumped off the car but once I try to remove the jumper leads the bike just dies.

I hoping the battery is not dead.

Advice please !!

Mike

Rhino,
Charge the battery and try again.
If after charging battery you cant start it , I suggest battery is kaput.
Modern batteries often die quickly without any notice or indication they are kaput.

Hi Mike,

Interesting problem. Once the bike is jump started and the engine is running, the alternator provides system voltage, not the battery... It, the alternator still needs to work bloody hard to charge up the battery, but should still provide adequate system voltage to keep the engine running.

Hope you haven't damaged anything whilst jump starting

If you have one of those fancy chargers with a recondition mode, try that.
I had success bringing the R1200C battery back to life with that charge mode.

Failing that, as Alex suggests, there is probably a dead cell (short) in the battery or similar. Lead batteries don't like to be 100% discharged

Modern electronically controlled machines (bikes included) are very sensitive to battery voltage... that's why I've got a whiz-bang lithium in mine.
