radar detectors
radar detectors
I am thinking of fitting a radar detector to my 2006 K1200R. Has anyone any experience of them, ie best type, place to purchase and fitting. I have had a telephone conversation with a firm in Morley and one in Jandakot. It seems expensive at around $2,000 plus. Cheers

Re: radar detectors
I have a Bell system I used to use in my Porsche. It is a few years old, but I no longer use it since the last time I got pinged was by a cop standing in the middle of the road with a handheld....by the time I heard it, he had my speed, I got the ticket. Unplugged it and put it in the sidepocket from that point.
I would be prepared to part with it for $150, assuming it still works!!! Further detail, I'd have to check. No guarantee you won't get a ticket though, that is your issue.

Re: radar detectors
Thanks for the offer. Im considering my options. The hand held are "laser based " so work on a different frequency. Thats where the cost factor comes in as you need both types to be safe. Yours is fine for multi novas and the type installed in the rural traffic police vehicles but to combat the hand held revenue raisers you need another type mounted in series with what you have or set in the radiator grill. On another note we should be celebrating the engineering achievement of the construction of the new South West Highway but all we here is from the traffic police salivating about how they are going to paste us all. Statistically freeways are the safest road in the state and yet with finite resources the WA police are intent on punishing us before there is even any evidence of wrongdoing. Its just like when they brought in double demerits well!!!! the evidence shows that since their introduction the fatality rate has increased, plainly its failed in what it set out to do. First rule in business is" If what your doing doesnt work... Then Stop It". Yet their answer is " Can you imagine what the death toll would have been like if we hadnt done it???? Talk about not being able to prove a negative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: radar detectors
I have a feeling this Bell system does both, but I cannot confirm as my 911 is away for a week while I am, the unit is in the side pocket so don't have access, don't even know what it is. Cost about $1200 about 10 years ago.
