The aftermath of the Upper Kalgan ride was fixing the broken drive shaft on JDs 2008 R1200 GS.

The hardest part really is fitting the new rubber gaiter to the back of the gearbox to swing-arm. Must be a technique to that one. Fitting the swing-arm to final drive is a doddle by comparison.
Here is the broken piece side-by-side with the new EI replacement 22 spline drive shaft.
The bike has already had a jaunt over the Holland Track over the weekend.
The EI drive shaft replacement is re-buildable with both universal joints and drive dampers. There are even grease nipples fitted to the universal joints.

Due to the growing number of failures of these drive shafts in the club, I've ordered one for my 2008 BMW R1200 GSA.
2x BMW R1200 RT at circa 90,000 km
1x BMW R1200 GS at circa 140,000 km
Current odometer on my 2008 BMW R1200 GSA is 174,000 km and the drive shaft is fine, I hope.
Hoping to fit the new one and overhaul the original unit as spare.

Yes Nev, The bike has done about 1,000km with the new driveshaft in place, including the Holland Track and some fast rough gravel roads. So far it goes as good as ever. Thanks for your help with sourcing and fitting the part.

Hi Goldie,
Firstly, you better identify the 1150 drive shaft. There seems to be plenty of iterations of same.

Drivetrain in Malaga reckon that they have the tools to overhaul BMW driveshafts. I was quoted $300 for fitting new Unis and balancing. That does of course rely on giving them a repairable drive shaft, not like JDs.

A quick re-cap
In case you've forgotten...
Inspected by technical experts only 10,000 kms ago... 'Nothing wrong with that' I'm told... It's now at circa 140,000 kms. Getting nervous as mine has 172,000 kms... There was a new boot fitted to that recently too... now gone...
The bike has already had a jaunt over the Holland Track over the weekend, nearly 1000 km.
Wouldn't suggest for one moment that it's been handled with kids' gloves
